Overlord Season 4 & Movie Updates: Plot and Adaptation Details

Overlord season 4 and an Overlord movie are in production, but when will be their plot and storyline? When will they release?

One of the most awaited anime series ‘Overlord’ is set to return for its fourth season. An anime movie has also been announced. Overlord in an Isekai anime series based on the light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama. One of the most exciting animes of all time, Overlord is set in the year 2126 in which super interacting games called DMMO-RPGs (Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) are a reality. After an intense twelve-year run, the game servers are about to be shut down. A gamer with a skeletal “Overlord” character named Momonga, who finds himself transported into a popular game called YGGDRASIL when its servers are shut down.

Overlord is produced by Japanese animation studio Madhouse. The first season released in 2015 adapted the first three volumes of Kugane Maruyama’s light novels. The second season released in Jan 2018 adapted the next three volumes of the light novel series. It delves deep into the world of YGGDRASIL, introducing a tribe of Lizardmen and the citizens of the wicked city of Re-Estize. Soon in 2018, the third season covering volumes seven to nine was released in Japan. It focuses on Ainz as he extends his dominion over his new world.

Overlord has generated tremendous hype and buzz ever since its inception. That’s the reason, the fans are desperately waiting for the release of the next season. Well, the good news for the fans is Japanese studio Madhouse confirmed in May 2021 that a fourth season and an Overlord animated movie were in the works. So, what will the storyline of these projects be? When can we expect them to release? Here’s what we know.

Overlord Season 4 and Movie: Storyline details

Studio Madhouse has confirmed that the upcoming Overlord movie will adapt the “Holy Kingdom” arc from Kagune Maruyama’s light novels which traverse volumes 12 and 13. The arc sees the Roble Holy Kingdom faces destruction at the hands of the evil and ruthless Demon Emperor, Jaldabaoth.

Coming to the fourth season, it will adapt volumes 10 and 11 of the light novel series. Volume 10 sees Ainz Ooal Gown turns his Sorcerer Kingdom into a paradise for all races, facing opposition from other in-game nations. Volume 11 details Ainz Ooal Gown, Shalltear Bloodfallen, and Aura Bella Fiora’s visit to the Dwarf Kingdom in the Azerlisia Mountains.

Overlord Season 4 and Overlord Movie: Release Date

There is no official confirmation from Madhouse on when Overlord season 4 will be released. However, fans have the feeling that it could arrive by the end of this year or early next year. Likewise, there is no update on the release date of the Overlord movie. Considering that it follows the season 4 storyline, we can expect it to release sometime in 2022.
