World Trigger is a Japanese anime based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Daisuke Ashihara. Season 1 comprising 73 episodes aired from October 5, 2014, to April 3, 2016. After a long hiatus, the anime returned with two more small-sized seasons in 2021 with the same cast reprising their roles. Season 3 consists of 14 episodes and concluded airing on Jan 23, 2022. Now, the anime community is eager to know when Toei Animation will return with the fourth season. It’s been almost two years since the third season concluded and fans are now getting anxious. Will there be World Trigger Season 4?
The renewal of any anime depends on factors like its popularity, availability of source material, and its viewership across platforms.
World Trigger is a very popular anime globally. Like the first season, the recent two seasons received a tremendous response from viewers. On myanimelist.com, World Trigger Season 3 has a superb rating of 8.27/10 with around 109K+ votes.
On various anime communities and forums, World Trigger Season 3 has been well received. In fact, it is touted as the best season of the series. So, popularity is not at all an issue that could hinder the renewal of World Trigger for season four.

Coming to the source material, World Trigger anime is based on the manga of the same. As of Feb 23, 2024, 231 chapters have been collected in 26 volumes. The most recent Volume 26 was released on June 2, 2023.
The manga author Daisuke Ashihara is going through some health issues. So, the publishing speed of the manga has been quite slow for the last couple of years.
Season 3 adapted the story until Volume 22 (Chapters 196). World Trigger Season 4 will complete the B-Rank Wars story arc and move on to adapting the Expedition Selection Exam story arc.
A single cour (12 to 14 episodes) of World Trigger requires around 25-30 chapters of the manga. However, the last dozen chapters or so have been conversations, and are not suitable for animation.
So, currently, there isn’t enough source material available to create a single season (12 to 14 episodes).
When will World Trigger Season 4 be released?
As of Feb 24, 2024, Toei Animation hasn’t officially renewed World Trigger for Season 4. Having said that, we are confident that World Trigger will return for a new season in the coming years.
Coming to the release date, it all depends on the release module Toei Animation wants to adopt. As mentioned above, currently, there isn’t enough source material available to even animate a single cour season.
If the studio wants to go ahead with a single cour (12 to 14 episodes) season, we can expect World Trigger Season 4 to premiere sometime in 2025.
However, the wait will be long if the studio plans to release more episodes in a single go or at a small gap. Currently, there are only 35 chapters available for adaptation. A two-cour season would require around 50 chapters. With the current pace, the manga author Daisuke Ashihara requires at least one more year to complete 50 chapters. So, the wait for World Trigger Season 4 could be very long. In fact, it could be 3 to 4 years from now.
