Demon Slayer is unarguably one of the most popular anime series of all time. Based on a manga series of the same name, the series revolves around a young boy Tanjiro Kamado whose entire family except his sister gets killed by a demon. His sister is transformed into a demon but retains humane qualities and emotions. He encounters a community that calls itself Demon Slayer Corps. Tanjiro joins society and sets out on a long journey to avenge his family’s death.

Like the first season, the second season of Demon Slayer received a tremendous response worldwide. Fans witnessed some crackling action-packed episodes. With the second season concluded on Feb 13, 2022, the fans are excited to see more action. So, what are the latest updates on Demon Slayer Season 3? Is there a release date? Here’s what we know so far.

Will there be Demon Slayer Season 3?

The first season of Demon Slayer is the 12th most popular anime title on Myanimelist with a score of 8.57/10. Its sequel an anime movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has an 8.7/10 score on Myanimelist. The second season has an impressive score of 8.8/10 from more than 0.5 million members.

It’s not just ratings, Demon Slayer episodes have been garnering record viewership in Japan, the United States, and other countries. According to Parrot Analysis, Demon Slayer is the most-demanded TV series in the United States.

A sequel to the first season, the movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train debuted in Japan on Oct 16, 2020, and becomes the highest-grossing movie of all time in Japan. It also becomes the highest-grossing anime movie of all time.

The creators announced the third season at the end of the second season finale. The next season will adapt the “Swordsmith Village” arc.

What plot would Demon Slayer Season 3 follow?

The second season of Demon Slayer was an adaptation of Entertainment District Arc that covers Chapters 70 through 98 of the manga series. Its prequel movie covered Mugen Train Arc.

The upcoming season will adapt the swordsmith village arc from the manga series. Those who have read manga know that the arc covers 28 chapters (99-127). So, we can expect the third season to have around 12 episodes like the second season.

In the upcoming season, Tanjiro will arrive at Swordsmith Village to get his sword fixed. He finds that his usual contact is missing. As Tanjiro begins the investigation, he gets introduced to two Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, and Mitsuri Kanroji. The first is Mitsuki Kanroji, the love Hashira. She is joined by Genya Shinazugawa, and Tanjiro is sent on a hunt to find a weapon in the village.

Demon Slayer Season 3 Release date

After much speculation, the creators announced the release date for the next season. Demon Slayer Season 3 will premiere in April 2023.

Now, the makers have revealed the exact release date. The third season is set to premiere on April 9, 2023, with a one-hour special episode, rather than the standard 22-minute runtime.

The first episode of Demon Slayer season 3 was previously shown during a theatrical event at the beginning of March alongside the final episodes of season two.

The hype around the third season is real and it remains to be seen if the new season lived up to the high bar it’s set for itself.

Demon Slayer Season 3 Cast: New and Old Characters

Tanjiro (Natsuki Hanae), Zenitsu (Hiro Shimono), Inosuke (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka), and Nezuko (Akari Kitou) will return for the next season for sure. Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito will be two of the primary new characters in the upcoming instalment. We can also see Tengen Uzui living happily his retired life with his three wives.

You can also expect more of the Hashiras to appear in the upcoming season, as well as members of the Twelve Upper Moons.

This upcoming season will bring Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, and Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira. It will also introduce Genya Shinazugawa, the younger brother of Sanemi, the Wind Hashira.

Haruo Sotozaki will direct  Demon Slayer Season 3: Swordsmith Village, while Akira Matsushima is returning as character designer. Once again, Ufotable is handling the production duties.

Crunchyroll has announced that they have acquired the distribution rights to Demon Slayer Season 3, which will debut on the streaming platform on April 9, 2023, in all regions where the service is available; Crunchyroll will be the exclusive home for the series in North and South America, as well as Europe.
