Will There Be Erased Season 2? Release Date and Updates [2021]
Erased Season 2

Will there be Erased Season 2? What is the possibility of ‘Boku dake ga Inai Machi’ Season 2? Here are all the latest updates.

Titled “Boku dake ga Inai Machi,” or “The Town Where Only I Am Missing” in Japan, “Erased” is a manga series written and illustrated by Kei Sanbe. Ever since its inception, author Kei Sanbe’s story has won millions of hearts across the globe. Over the past few years, the manga series has been adapted into a live-action movie, an anime show, and a live-action series.

Talking about the anime show, Erased is one of the best of the lot. The first season premiered in Japan on Jan 8, 2016. In just a 12-episode season, Satoru Fujinuma’s time-travelling story impressed the viewers, leaving them asking for more. Season 1 finale aired on Mar 25, 2016, and since then the fans have been eagerly awaiting trustworthy updates on the next season. Here’s everything you need to know about Erased Season 2.

What are the chances of Erased getting a second season?

Studio A-1 Pictures adapted the first season of the anime. It’s been more than five years, the first season concluded airing, but still, we don’t have any news on series renewal for a second season.

One of the prime reasons we don’t have a sequel is the lack of source material. Season 1 of Erased adapted the first 7 volumes of its manga. After the anime’s release, Sanbe only released two more volumes. Currently, there are just nine volumes of the manga series. The story is yet not complete. Author Kei Sanbe has left the readers on a cliffhanger.

Since the small-sized first season consumed around seven volumes, we can easily assume that there isn’t enough source material available for a new season.

When will Erased Season 2 release?

Well, we can’t comment on the release date as there is no official update about the second season. Season 1 of the anime series concluded airing in Mar 2016. A live-action drama series premiered on Netflix in December 2017.

spin-off manga was published from June to November 2016. A spin-off novel series by Hajime Ninomae was launched in Kadokawa’s Bungei Kadokawa publication from November 2015 to March 2016. A live-action movie titled Boku Dake ga Inai Machi premiered on Mar 19, 2016, in Japan.

Erased first season has a different ending than that of its source material since it covered seven volumes. Other adaptations, consisting of the live-action movie and series, covered all nine volumes available.

The first season of Erased received a great response from anime lovers. Even after five years, fans are hopeful for its return. Fans are hopeful as the anime received a superb response when it was moved to Netflix for English release.

Netflix is taking a lot of interest in animes of late, producing a lot of their own. Even if Netflix renews Erased for season two, we could have to wait for years as there is a lack of source material. All we can do now is to hope for the best and wait for the official announcement.

What will be the plot of Erased Season 2?

The sci-fi anime series The story follows Satoru Fujinuma, a young man who holds an ability known as “Revival” that sends him back in time moments before a life-threatening incident, enabling him to prevent it from happening again. But when his mother is murdered, he’s sent back 18 years into the past. The “revival” ability given him the opportunity to not only save his mother, but also prevent an incident that took the lives of three of his childhood friends.

Season 1 covered the first seven volumes of the manga. It did not fully adhere to the manga but completed the story without any loose ends. So, what will be the plot of the second season? Well, the first thing that comes to my mind is the spin-off manga series.

The side-story takes place while the main character, Satoru Fujinuma, is still unconscious in a coma that ultimately lasts for 15 years. The focus of the story shifts to Kayo Hinazuki, who is now a junior high school student. [Crunchyroll]

The writers could come up with a new story centred on Satoru’s time-travelling ability. Well, these are just suggestions and we should wait for the official announcement.
