Will there be Haikyuu Season 5?
It’s now been more than two years since the last episode of Season 4 aired. We are yet to get an official update on whether Season 5 is coming from Production I.G (the Studio behind Haikyuu).
However, in December 2020, following the last episode’s release on Crunchyroll, the English-language Haikyu!! Twitter account thanked the “anime team” for their hard work. The tweet implies that the fifth season will come.

Several Haikyuu!! projects were announced on its 10th Anniversary to celebrate the series, including key visuals, an exhibition match, and a single-page manga drawn by Haruichi Furudate.
“The FINAL has been decided!” tweeted Tobio Kageyama voice actor Kaito Ishikawa on August 13, 2022. “I am emotionally disturbed by the joy of seeing the continuation and the beginning of a season that will never be repeated. I will face Kageyama and Karasuno in the recording!”
After a mysterious countdown appeared on the official Haiykuu!! anime’s official website on August 8, 2022, there was a lot of speculation, with fans expecting a Haikyuu Season 5 announcement.
The countdown terminated at 5:00 AM EST (6 PM JST) on Saturday, August 13, 2022, and it actually turned out to be about Haikyuu!! FINAL movie which will be released in two parts. The official Haikyuu!! Twitter’s account also confirmed the news.
The teaser trailer released on August 13, 2022, features brief snapshots of the manga’s final arc that takes place after a time skip.
Does the announcement of the two-part Haikyuu!! FINAL movie series means that there will be no season five of the anime series? Well, at least the title suggests so. However, we should keep that around 100 chapters of the manga are still available for adaptation.
So, it would not be easy to adapt them into a two-part movie, even with a good pace. Does that mean Haikyu!! Season 5 would be announced after the movie series? Well, we can only hope so.
Is There A Release Date for Haikyuu Season 5?
The first three seasons of “Haikyuu” were released promptly in 2014, 2015, and 2016. The popular anime returned for the fourth season after a gap of four years. For the first time, Season 4 aired in two parts. The first part aired from January to April 2020. Then Season 4 returned after a five-month break and aired from October to December 2020. It’s been almost three years since Season 4 concluded.
The Haikyuu!! Festa 2023 event took place on September 24, 2023, and during the event, the staff unveiled a trailer, the release date of the movie, and a promotional still of Haikyuu!! The Movie – Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump, the first of the final movie series. The first movie releases on February 16, 2024.
That said, there’s no current release date for the second Haikyuu!! movie.
It has been a few years since the Haikyuu!! manga ended, and since then, fans of the popular sports anime have been wondering when Season 5 will be released.
It’s official: two full-length movies are set to encompass all the remaining chapters of the sports manga.
The big question looms: Can 110 chapters and five arcs be condensed into just two movies? Given the endpoint of Season 4 of Haikyuu!!, it’s likely that the final movies will dive into the Nekoma vs. Karasuno Arc. However, without additional details, it remains uncertain how they’ll encapsulate the entire narrative.
The continuation in the form of two full-length movies picks up right after the Tokyo National Tournament, focusing on the much-awaited clash between Nekoma and Karasuno.
Fans can anticipate a transition from Karasuno to Fukurodani, delving into Bokuto’s dynamic style of play as depicted in the manga. The manga spans the Tokyo Nationals Arc, the Time Skip Arc, and Hinata’s venture to Brazil, elements that might find their way into the movies.
The anime adaptation has so far stayed true to the original manga source material, which is why fans expect that the final movies will mirror the manga too.
However, condensing over 100 chapters into two movies implies that not every scene from the manga will make it to the big screen, a fact fans should keep in mind.
Will there be Season 5? Well, we will get answers when the first of the movies, releases in Feb 2024. Till then, it’s wait and watch.
However, we are expecting the fifth season to be announced after the release of the two movies. If the second movie premieres in 2025, we expect the fifth and final season to release in 2026.
