Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 2: The second season of the popular anime will premiere in July 2022.

There were some big hits in the summer anime season of 2020. ‘Rent-a-Girlfriend’ was one of them. An adaptation of the manga of the same name by Reiji Miyajima, the anime series aired from July to September 2020. Seeing the success of the first season, the makers greenlit the second season. The announcement came just minutes after the season one finale aired on Crunchyroll back in September 2020.

After almost two years, Rent-a-Girlfriend will return to our TV sets for its second season. Here’s everything we know about Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 2 including its release date, plot, and cast.

Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 2 Release Date

The good news for fans is that they don’t have to wait long to see Kazuya and his rental girlfriend. A teaser trailer and visual for the upcoming second season were released in January 2022 along with the release announcement.

The teaser and poster focus on Sumi Sakurasawa. She had come into the first season towards the end (after being teased in the opening and endings). She will be playing a crucial role in the second season.

Although the specific release date hasn’t been announced yet, the second season is expected to premiere on Saturday, July 2 or July 9, 2022, considering the release date of the first season (July 11, 2020).

What is the plot of Rent-a-Girlfriend? What will happen in Season 2?

The story revolves around a 20-year-old named Kazuya Kinoshita. Following the break-up with his girlfriend Mami Nanami, he begins using a dating app to rent a girlfriend named Chizuru Mizuhara, a beautiful and attractive girl. However, he gives her a low rating on the basis that the experience was inauthentic.

Upon introducing Chizuru to his grandmother who is in the hospital, Kazuya’s situation takes a turn for the worse. His grandmother is smitten with how great she is. Kazuya continues renting Chizuru in order to keep up appearances with his family and friends, but things get nasty when they discover they are next-door apartment neighbors. Later, other girls from the rental girlfriend business also join in.

Season 2 plot

The first season of Rent-a-Girlfriend introduced fans to four main girls that each had their own notable personalities. Season 1 adapted the first six volumes of the manga series of a total of 25 published to date. The first season focused on the first three girls.

In the second season, the focus will be on Sumi Sakurasawa as teased in the poster. Mami Nanami, Ruka Sarashina, and Chizuru will remain the main characters in Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2. Ruka loves Kazuya fiercely. Mami, however, despises Kazuya for unknown reasons. So, both characters will engage in verbal and cunning exchanges.

The upcoming season will adapt manga from Volume 7. It is expected to have 12 episodes like the first season.
