2016 wasn’t a great year in terms of the number of flop movies. But still, three superstars managed to mint huge money and emerged as box office kings.

2016 proved a great year for three superstars of Bollywood- Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar. All the three stars had massive releases at the box-office and they all performed wonderfully. The main focus of their films was on content and this is the main reason why they became the ultimate box office kings of 2016.

Let’s take a look at the collection of Salman, Aamir and Akshay’s films in 2016.

Salman Khan’s films in 2016- 

Salman Khan released just a single movie Sultan this year and the movie broke many records and even formed many new records. Sultan earned 300.5 crores in India. Salman becomes the only actor with two 300 crore grossers to his name. At the end of the year, Salman was joined by Aamir Khan whose Christmas release, Dangal also crossed 300 crore mark.

Aamir Khan’s films in 2016-

Just like any other year, Aamir Khan released Dangal around the end of the year and created history with such a massive release. The movie earned 386 crores in India. Dangal becomes the top Bollywood grosser of all time beating the lifetime collection of PK (340 crores).

Akshay Kumar’s films in 2016-

Akshay Kumar has three big releases this year- Airlift, Housefull 3 and Rustom. All the three films crossed 100 Crore mark in India. This record is unlikely to be broken in the near future.

Housefull 3 Total Box-Office Collection- 193 crores

Rustom Total Box-Office Collection– 218 crores

It is quite clear from these figures that Salman, Aamir and Akshay contributed the most in bringing money into Bollywood this year. They made it clear once again why they are the kings and will remain the kings of the box-office for a long time!
