The report claims that Taylor Sheridan was able to complete most work on the scripts before the strike started. With pre-production already getting underway, the show should be able to start shooting season 5 part 2 very quickly after the strikes conclude.
WGA called off the strike on Sep 27, 2023, after they reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. The American actors’ union SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) also ended the strike on Nov 9.
Filming for the final set of episodes hasn’t started yet
In an interview with Outsider in December 2022, Brecken Merrill (who plays Tate Dutton) confirmed that they hadn’t actually filmed anything for the new season past episode eight. At the time of that interview, he hadn’t even seen any scripts. The filming for the next set of episodes was scheduled to start in March 2023 but that didn’t happen.
Earlier this year, reports surfaced detailing a behind-the-scenes between Kevin Costner and co-creator Taylor Sheridan. Costner, who plays the family patriarch John Dutton and recently won a Golden Globe for his performance, allegedly wants to limit his workload to just one week of filming on season 5’s remaining eight episodes.
