Paatal Lok on Amazon Prime Video kept us on the edge of our seats. Undoubtedly, the show finished too quickly, and we wished we had more of it to pass the time during the lockdown. Paatal Lok is an engrossing thriller drama that debuted on May 15, 2020. Sudip Sharma, who also created the screenplay, directed and produced the series with Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy.
The plot is inspired by Tarun Tejpal’s novel “The Story of My Assassins,” which was published in 2010. The plot is set in East Delhi, where a police officer named Hathiram Choudhary investigates a high-profile crime. During the investigation, he becomes a part of the criminal underworld and the crime world, which presents him with numerous problems and obstacles. To tell the story, the show uses the traditional conceptions of heaven, earth, and Paatal.
The first season of the series received tremendous acclaim. It’s been almost three years since the first season debuted and fans are now wondering whether there will be a season 2. When is Paatal Lok Season 2 Release Date?
Although crime drama has been a common theme in Indian web shows, Paatak Lok is different in its tone and treatment. Amazon Prime Video took two years to officially renew the show for the second season.
On April 28, 2022, Amazon Prime announced its slate of upcoming shows and Paatal Lok Season 2 was part of it. However, since then there has been no update on the second season of the show.
Earlier in 2023, Anurag Kashyap in an interview with The Lallantop revealed that Paatal Lok has been stalled after the controversy surrounding Amazon Prime Video’s other series Tandav. For the uninformed, the series starring Saif Ali Khan found itself in the middle of a controversy over hurting religious sentiments. Post that, OTT platforms are playing it safe by distancing themselves from controversial content (especially related to religious topics).
However, in an interview with India Today, Jaideep Ahlawat confirmed that the shooting for the second season started in November 2022.
In a recent media interview, Jaideep revealed that the second seasons of ‘Paatal Lok’ and ‘The Broken News’ will be coming soon. Jaideep said this in early October so we can expect the second season of Paatal Lok to release in early 2024. However, we are still awaiting an official confirmation from Amazon Prime Video.
What will be the plot of Paatal Lok Season 2?
The plot is set in East Delhi, where a police officer named Hathiram Choudhary investigates a high-profile crime. During the investigation, he becomes a part of the criminal underworld and the crime world, which presents him with numerous problems and obstacles. To tell the story, the show uses the traditional conceptions of heaven, earth, and Paatal.
These comparisons also show the socioeconomic and ethnic diversity of India. The story centres on Paatal, a heaven for thieves and killers. Towards the end of the series, Hathiram Chowdhary was content with his life as a police officer. Therefore, Paatal Lok Season 2 might feature a fresh murder case. The story will continue where the first season left off while yet being distinctive.
In an interview with Indianexpress.com, Jaideep Ahlawat talked about Paatal Lok 2 and said, “I have full faith in the team of the show, from Avinash, Sudip to everyone. Main in logo ke bharose kaam karta hu. I get a good team, I do good work. If I don’t, then may be the work isn’t that good. But I know that the story that Sudip has written is just beautiful.”

- Abhishek Banerjee as Vishal “Hathoda” Tyagi, a notorious hitman and one of the four suspects arrested in the plot to murder Sanjeev Mehra
