Will There Be Asur Season 3? Asur 2 Ending & Release Date Rumors

Asur Season 3: Everything You Need To Know!

Will there be Asur Season 3? Here’s an explanation of the second season’s ending and buildup and potential plot points for the third season.

“Asur,” the gripping Hindi crime thriller series, has captivated audiences with its intriguing storyline, brilliant performances, and unique blend of mythology and forensic science. The first season of Asur was launched on March 2, 2020, and after a three-year wait, Asur Season 2 – The Rise of the Dark Side was released on June 1, 2020, on Jio Cinema.

Like the first season, the second season kept the viewers on their feet with its thrilling storyline and plot. The show deserves all the praise because of the fact that despite a three-year break between the two seasons, viewers accepted it with the same enthusiasm and made it one of the biggest hits in the Indian OTT space.

What Asur Season 2 is about?

Starring Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti in pivotal roles, the official synopsis of Asur 2 reads, “The devastating events of Season 1 take a heavy toll on everyone involved in the hunt for Asur. Season 2 chronicles the rise of the dark side and continues the high-octane chase as the CBI is racing against time to gather evidence and hunt down the serial killer.”

Well, this small summary isn’t enough to describe the excellence of the second season. The CBI is determined to track down Shubh, who is on a mission to demonstrate that goodness is nonexistent and that evil forces will conquer humanity. Shubh, a psychopathic killer, has been convinced by his father that he is a true embodiment of an Asur (demon). The story unfolds through two timelines: his childhood, revealing his descent into darkness, and the present, showcasing the brutal murders of handpicked innocent victims that he commits.

To bring his plans to fruition, Shubh relies heavily on AI. He conducts a live podcast/event, where his followers and non-followers exchange their ideas. In later episodes, it is also revealed to be the medium where he and his allies plan their moves. It takes a lot of effort from the CBI to crack Shubh’s modus operandi and by the time they do, the stakes are extremely high as the world is almost about to end.

This season we witnessed how Shubh heavily relies on AI to execute his plans. He organizes live podcasts/events where both his followers and non-followers engage in exchanging ideas. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that these platforms also serve as a means for Shubh and his allies to strategize their actions. The CBI faces significant challenges in deciphering Shubh’s methods, and by the time they make progress, the stakes reach an alarming level, with the world on the brink of destruction.

Asur Season 2 Ending Explained

After several twists and turns, the second season of the show ends on a terrific note. Without delving much into the whole plot, we witness a climactic showdown between Asur and Anant, an 11-year-old boy portrayed as the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Anant’s purpose is to stop evil and restore peace and harmony on Earth. Considered a divine entity by the public, the miracle boy faces a momentous decision. At Mukti Ghat, he is presented with a remote control containing two buttons—one to eliminate those who believe in God and him, and the other to vanquish those who worship evil.

In both scenarios, a significant loss of life is inevitable. Failing to make a choice would result in the demise of everyone, leaving no apparent way to escape the situation. As the pressure intensifies with each passing minute, DJ is determined to prevent Anant from making a decision because he is the one who projected him as a miracle boy.

Shubh plants a Sonic bomb at the ghat while the second one has been planted at a conference of scientists. In the final moments of the show, CBI is shown running from pillar to post to find and defuse the bombs to prevent massive destruction, the timer keeps building up fear. Meanwhile, Nikhil and Nusrat reach Shubh’s base camp just in time. DJ asks Nikhil to avert diffusing the Sonic bomb for a few seconds. After the bomb explodes, 10 seconds later DJ asks Nikhil to diffuse it. Meanwhile, DJ spots Shubh at the Ghat and injures him by shooting him.

Instead of killing him, Dhananjay finally arrests Asur. Nikhil goes to meet him one last time in prison. In what seemed like a normal gesture, he extends his hand for a handshake and when Shubh relents, it is revealed that it was a handshake of poison. Shubh is finally dead. But the real question is, is he the real Asur?

After a nail-biting end that left many mysteries unexplained, fans are eagerly awaiting Asur Season 3. Though Asur dies in the season finale, his ideas and worldview live on in the hearts of millions. Let’s have a look at some fan theories and probable plot points.

Will there be Asur Season 3?

Given what happened at the end of Season 2 – Nikhil’s departure, Shubh Joshi’s murder, and Vrinda Shrivastav’s disappearance – there is already a lot to look forward to in Asur Season 3.

Going by the track record of the series, it’s a high possibility that the man who was shot down wasn’t the real Asur or in fact, if he was then there is a large army of Asur already ready. Across the two seasons, it has been firmly established that Kali is immortal, incapable of perishing. Moreover, Shubh, as evil as he was, has successfully cultivated a following for his ideology of evil triumphing over good.

If we watch closely, several points build up to the upcoming season. When Nikhil goes to meet he says that Kali never dies; the asura stays alive in someone else.

In the final scene when DJ goes to meet Vrinda, the only person to have known Shubh from close quarters, is shown missing. Vrinda is the only one who survived the poison attack at Trilok Dham, along with Shubh. DJ discovers her paintings of Kali, which suggest that she is actually evil. it could be an indication that Shubh already had a plan in place. In fact, according to some fan’s theories, Vrinda’s paintings suggest that Shubh and Vrinda have a child and he is going to be the next Asur.

There is a lot to look forward to in Asur Season 3. Considering that the second season of the show has become a huge hit, we are assured that there will be a third season. However, as of Sep 24, 2023, there is no official update on the show’s renewal for the third season.
