Midnight Mass on Netflix

This week Netflix is coming up with a bunch of new movies and TV shows. The horror supernatural drama Midnight Mass is one of the most anticipated among them. Considering that it is created by Mike Flanagan, the expectations are already sky-high. Fans are eager to know what Doctor Sleep director has on offer this time, after the success of The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. As the limited series is due to release this week, here’s everything you need to know about it.

Episode Count and Release Date

On July 1, 2019, Netflix announced a horror series, with Mike Flanagan serving as writer, director and executive producer. Mike Flanagan has had a successful partnership with Netflix. Flanagan also created, directed, produced, the Netflix supernatural horror series The Haunting of Hill House (2018). He follows it up with an equally good horror series titled The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020).

Coming to Midnight Mass, it’s a limited seven-episode horror series. All episodes will drop at once on Netflix on Sep 24, 2021.

Midnight Mass Story and Plotline

There were some speculations, that Midnight Mass might be a continuation of The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), based on the horror novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. However, Mike Flanagan personally subsided these rumours through a tweet from January 2021. Here’s a tweet:

The supernatural horror series is focused around an isolated island community that experiences supernatural events after the arrival of a mysterious priest.

Here’s what the Netflix summary of the show reads:

Midnight Mass tells the tale of a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When

Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervour takes hold of the community – but do these miracles come at a price?

For those of you who have seen Hush (one of the best Mike Flanagan’s movie), Midnight Mass is the name of the book Maddie Young (Kate Siegel) wrote in that movie. There’s a scene where you briefly see the back of the book in Hush, and it even says Crockett island!

Henry Thomas and some other known faces in the Midnight Mass Cast

The Midnight Mass cast features a number of familiar faces from Mike Flanagan’s previous series. Henry Thomas will appear along with Rahul Kohli, Alex Essoe, and Kate Siegel.
