Recently, at New York Comic-Con, Toei Animation announced an exciting addition to the Dragon Ball franchise, a new anime series titled Dragon Ball Daima. Unlike the older Dragon Ball versions, Dragon Ball Daima does something different by bringing in a completely new story that’s not from the original manga.
Dragon Ball manga creator Akira Toriyama revealed the meaning of “Daima” and the anime’s premise at the New York Comic Con. The NYCC panel revealed that manga illustrator Toriyama helped design the characters, plot, and even the settings for the upcoming anime spin-off.

What will be the plot of Dragon Ball Daima?
The upcoming anime spin-off sounds really exciting from its premises. Goku and his fellow Z-Fighters are turned back into kids following a “conspiracy” from a new mysterious villain. The heroes embark on a thrilling journey to another world to solve the crisis. Toriyama in his letter promised an intense action anime, something not seen in a long time.
Toriyama Reveals The Meaning Behind Daima
In his letter shared on the Toei Animation X account, Toriyama opened up on the meaning of Daima. It is a made-up Japanese term that in English would translate as “Evil”.
The message also confirmed the return of Goku’s Nyoibo (Power Pole), which he will have to use to make up for his small size, something that fans have not seen since the original Dragon Ball series.
The trailer offers a glimpse of a lively and rejuvenated cast. Well-known characters such as Goku, Vegeta, Mr. Satan, and Master Roshi have been reimagined as children in this new iteration.
While this surprising development has led to comparisons with Dragon Ball GT, Daima distinguishes itself by reversing the age of the entire Z-Fighters, offering fans a unique and thrilling experience.
When will Dragon Ball Daima premiere?
This series celebrates the 40th anniversary of the iconic franchise and will be released worldwide starting in the fall of 2024. The exact premiere date is not known and will revealed later.
