Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 finally gets a premiere date as Paramount Network announces two more Spinoffs.
Finally, some good news for Yellowstone fans. Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 now has a release window. Paramount Network confirmed on Thursday, November 2, that season 5’s second half will premiere in November 2024. The second part of season five will mark the end of the show which debuted in 2018.
Yellowstone’s Season 5 Episode 9 was previously set to premiere this month, but a press release confirmed that the dual actors’ and writers’ strikes impacted production schedules. (The WGA strike ended in September, but the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing.)
Well, this is not going to be the end of the show in a true sense as Paramount announced that the Yellowstone universe will keep expanding with two additional spinoffs tentatively titled 1944 and 2024. A new spin-off prequel 1944 is already in the works, according to Deadline.
“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with 5 million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions — and we’re just getting started,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement.
“On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon — thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”
Yellowstone spinoffs
The first Yellowstone spinoff, 1883, premiered in December 2021 and followed an earlier generation of the Dutton family. The cast included Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Sam Elliott with cameo appearances from Billy Bob Thornton, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
Another prequel titled 1923 premiered on December 18, 2022, and featured Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. The second and final season of 1923 is also delayed due to strikes and is expected to premiere in late 2024.
In 1883, the Dutton family embarked on their journey from Texas to Montana, while in 1923, the focus shifted to the clan’s efforts to safeguard their ranch during the early days of the Great Depression.
True Detective star Matthew McConaughey has already been confirmed to play the lead in a Yellowstone spin-off. He is a part of the Yellowstone follow-up contemporary series 2024.
Coming back to Yellowstone Season 5, the first half premiered in November 2022. However, the second half has been affected by delays. It was originally scheduled to debut this past summer but was pushed back amid rumours of a feud between showrunner Sheridan, 53, and series lead Kevin Costner.
Reportedly, Kevin Costner wanted to leave the show early to work on his next directorial project, Horizon: An American Saga, which is set for release in 2024. He wasn’t committing more than a week for filming.
It remains to be seen whether Costner will appear in Yellowstone’s final episodes. In the first half of Season 5, John Dutton finds himself embroiled in a power struggle with his son, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), who called for his father’s removal from the position of Montana’s governor.
Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 will air on the Paramount Network in November 2024.
