Toy Story 5: Potential Release Rate, Cast, Plot and More!

Toy Story 5: Fans will have to wait until 2026 or 2027 to see the film. Here’s everything you need to know!

  • Disney CEO Bob Iger surprised Toy Story fans on February 8, 2023, when he announced that Pixar is now producing Toy Story 5.
  • Toy Story 5 may not come out until 2027–2028, meaning we might have to wait up to four or five years.

Toy Story is an American animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. When “Toy Story” debuted in theaters in 1995, it became the first feature film to be computer-animated. Subsequently, it gave rise to three more sequels, numerous shorts, video games, a television series, and a spinoff featuring “Lightyear.”

In other words, even though the conclusions of “Toy Story 3” and “4” seemed to be intended to wrap off the series on a high note, Pixar’s flagship franchise just keeps expanding. As you are all aware, Toy Story 5 has already been renewed, so it should come as no surprise that the anticipation for the upcoming film is at an all-time high.

Although many Pixar movie fans welcomed the news, others questioned the need for a fifth Toy Story film. So, which side are you on? Are you looking forward to the fifth installment? Curious when it will be released in theaters? Here’s everything you need to know!

Toy Story 5 release date prediction

According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Toy Story 5 has been confirmed and is currently in active development, but the release date is still unknown. However, given the release schedules of the previous movies, Toy Story 5 may not come out until 2027–2028, meaning we might have to wait up to four or five years.

Four upcoming films have been announced: Inside Out 2, directed by Kelsey Mann, to be released on June 14, 2024. Elio, directed by Adrian Molina will be released on June 13, 2025, and two untitled films on March 6, 2026, and June 19, 2026. So, Toy Story 5 may be released in June 2027.

Toy Story 5: What will it be about this time?

The Toy Story franchise is primarily concerned with the adventures of a group of toys who come to life when humans are not present. As for Toy Story 5, nothing has been confirmed. Since the upcoming film is still in development, leaks have not yet surfaced.

However, the fourth Toy Story film, like the previous ones, was both an ending and the possibility of a new beginning. Producer Mark Nielsen shared some details about the future of Toy Story 5 in an interview during the 2019 Toy Story 4 press tour. According to him, the franchise’s creative team came upon each movie as if it were their very first and last.

Thus, a brand-new story will be told in the fifth installment. Moreover, according to Tim Allen’s Twitter post following Disney’s announcement, it appears that the film will reunite Woody and Buzz following their goodbye at the end of the previous film.

Toy Story 5: Who is returning?

The “Toy Story” films have always had remarkable casts and Part 5 will be no different. The characters returning for Toy Story 5 are as follows. Check it out:

  • Woody (Tom Hanks)
  • Buzz (Tim Allen)
  • Jessie
  • Bullseye
  • Rex (Wallace Shawn)
  • Hamm (John Ratzenberger)
  • Slinky Dog (Blake Clark)
  • Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton)
  • Trixie (Kristen Schaal)
  • Buttercup (Jeff Garlin)
  • Dolly (Bonnie Hunt)
  • Forky (Tony Hale)
  • Giggle McDimples (Ally Maki)
  • Ducky (Keegan-Michael Key)
  • Bunny (Jordan Peele)
  • Duke Kaboom (Keanu Reeves)

Additionally, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head are the only two characters who might either not return or be recast, primarily due to the deaths of actors Don Rickles and Estelle Harris. While Harris passed away in 2022, Rickles passed away in 2017 and his voice was used through archive recordings, whereas Harris died in 2022. Furthermore, there is speculation that an adult Andy might make a reappearance in Toy Story 5.

Is there any trailer?

Toy Story 5 was only announced a few months back, and since Bob Iger did not reveal how far along in production the fifth Toy Story film is, it is more than likely still in its early stages, and we won’t get a first look at the new chapter for quite a while.

Where to watch Toy Story 5?

Toy Story 5, like the previous installments, will be released in theaters. And once its theatrical run is over, it will be available digitally on Disney Plus. Previous movies of the franchise are available on Disney Plus.
