Wednesday Season 2: Release Date, Cast, and Everything We Know!

Wednesday Season 3: Everything We Know So Far!

Wednesday Season 2: After the runaway success of the first season, Netflix renewed Tim Burton’s Addams Family series in January 2023.

  • Wednesday had its premiere on November 16, 2022.
  • In Jan 2023, Netflix renewed the series after the huge success of the first season.

Wednesday is a popular coming-of-age supernatural comedic horror series based on the Addams Family character Wednesday Addams. The series is created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Wednesday had its premiere on November 16, 2022, and was made available on Netflix on November 23, 2022, to mostly favorable reviews.

Within three weeks of release, it became the second-most watched English-language Netflix series. Wednesday eventually became the most-watched original series ever on Netflix with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.

Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, and won four out of them. It received two Golden Globe nominations: Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Ortega.

The show has already been renewed for a second season. And now, fans are getting eager and impatient to find out when the show will be renewed for a third season before the debut of the premiere of the second season.

When will Wednesday Season 2 be released?

After the tremendous success of the first season, Netflix renewed Wednesday for the second two on Jan 6, 2023. This comes as no surprise.

Netflix released a video in which Jenna Ortega as Wednesday says, “Over the past few weeks I’ve been hunted, haunted, and mimicked millions of times across the internet. It’s been pure torture. Thank you.”

The scripting work was scheduled to start in May. However, the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike severely impacted the project. The strike started on May 2 and on Wednesday, September 27, it finally came to a conclusion after a long 146 days.

Before the strike, in April 2023, Jenna Ortega spoke with Glamour to confirm that work for Wednesday Season 2 had already begun:

“No vacations or anything like that. We are starting to prep season two of Wednesday, which…has been exciting. Just developing new storylines and seeing where characters are going. Starting those conversations has been really, really fun. I think it’s going to be bigger and better, which is cool.”

Following a delay due to the Hollywood strikes, Wednesday season 2 of the Addams Family spinoffs has finally been given a production start date. Filming for the upcoming installment is now scheduled to begin in late April 2024, and it will take place in Ireland.

Filming for the first season took place in Romania between September 2021 and March 2022. Season 1 debuted in November 2022. So, if the second season follows the same timeline, we will get the second season in 2025 only.

What will be the plot of Wednesday Season 2?

In an interview with Variety (published Jan 30), Emma Myers, who plays Wednesday’s werewolf roommate, Enid Sinclair, revealed that “anything is possible in the show”.

“We haven’t really spoken about direction at all, so I don’t really know what the game plan is for anything,” Myers told the website.

Wednesday’s first season immersed fans in Wednesday Addams’ life while she was a student at Nevermore Academy. As she adjusts to her new school, she learns psychic skills, works to unravel a terrifying mystery involving her parents, and manages her interactions with vampires, werewolves, and sirens.

At the end of the season, she learns that Tyler, the Sheriff’s son and her crush from the coffee shop, is the Hyde monster responsible for the brutal killings at Nevermore. Therefore, the second season will begin where season 1 left off.

One thing that definitely needs to be resolved is the mystery texter. Not long after Xavier gifts Wednesday a brand-new phone, she receives a cryptic, threatening text message complete with stalker-y photos of herself.

The showrunners also explained how they want to dig into the Addams family’s relationships in more detail, telling TVLine: “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles.

“Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.”

Creators Gough and Millar also said that Wednesday’s relationship with her mother (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones in Season 1) might also get some more screen time in Season 2.

Ortega, who is now also an executive producer, also suggested that the new season would have a stronger emphasis on horror over teen romance.

“I think everything is bigger,” Ortega said of Season 2 on the red carpet at the Emmys. “It’s a lot more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

Wednesday Season 2 Cast: Who is coming back?

Wednesday and her right-hand Thing are bound to return for season two. Wednesday’s almost-love-interest Xavier Thorpe is also expected to join season two. The other cast members set to join the second season are:

  • Jenna Ortega
  • Catherine Zeta-Jones
  • Luis Guzmán
  • Isaac Ordonez
  • Fred Armisen
  • Gwendoline Christie
  • Jamie McShane
  • Percy Hynes White
  • Hunter Doohan
  • Emma Myers
  • Joy Sunday

In Season 2, Wednesday’s world, and her family, are set to expand. During the Tudum: A Global Fan Event, Ortega, Doohan, Myers, and Sunday engaged in discussions about some of the spookiest fan theories surrounding Wednesday. These discussions touched upon potential impending threats associated with Joseph Crackstone’s ring (played by William Houston) and a cloud of mystery surrounding Lurch’s (George Burcea) true identity. However, the cast did confirm one viewer hunch: A new Addams family member is on their way to Wednesday.

Doohan admits that he and his fellow cast members are uncertain about which new Addams character will join the series. However, this uncertainty hasn’t stopped them from speculating. Ortega is especially hopeful that Cousin Itt might make an appearance in Nevermore. In agreement, Doohan and Sunday both express their eagerness to meet Wednesday’s grandmother.

Will there be Wednesday Season 3?

The big news for fans is that the creators have a big plan. The creators are hopeful that there are going to be at least three to four seasons.

Speaking to Variety about where the show can go, Wednesday showrunner Miles Millar said: “For us, it’s always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it’s looking at multiple seasons, ideally. That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully the show is successful.”

Miles explained: “So you always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change. Often, you want to see which characters or cast pop and who you like to write for. So you want to keep it open and organic enough to change it and evolve.”

He ended the conversation by saying: “We certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons.”
