If you’re looking for something that brings your two favourite genres of a dramedy (Comedy-Drama) and Sports, you don’t need to surf anymore. No show combines these two better than everyone’s favourite sports dramedy: Ted Lasso. It is an American sports dramedy TV series based on the character of the same name first portrayed by Jason Sudeikis in a commercial for NBC Sports League.

The series follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach who is hired to coach an English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, in an attempt by its owner to exact revenge on her ex-husband.

Ted Lasso is one of the most popular dramedy series and that’s the reason Apple TV+ renewed it for a third season in Oct 2020, well before the second season premiered in July 2021. The feel-good show landed twenty Emmy nominations for its first season, the most Emmy nominations for any show in its first year, and won seven, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Sudeikis. The second season received 20 nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards. It won four awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, acting awards for Sudeikis and Goldstein, and a directing award for MJ Delaney.

The fans are super excited for the next season which is almost upon us. Here’s everything you need to know about Ted Lasso Season 3.

Ted Lasso Season 3 release date

Season 1 premiered in August 2020, and Season 2 was released in July 2021. With this pattern, everyone was expecting the next season to premiere around the same time in 2022. However, series co-creator Brendan Hunt revealed that viewers have to wait a bit long for the premiere of season three.

In Jan 2022 he told TVLine, “We’re in pre-production and scripts are written,” but cameras will start rolling later than usual because of a “football wrinkle” — specifically, “when we might shoot football [scenes].

The filming for the third season finally started in early March 2022 according to Apple TV+ on Twitter. The tweet reads “New season, New kits,” showcases new jerseys for the show’s central soccer team, AFC Richmond.

According to Puck, the showrunner Sudeikis has been demanding rewrites to get the scripts perfect. Those changes include “character arcs shifted” and “script changes on the fly.”

At the 2022 Emmys, Sudeikis didn’t hint about the third season getting released soon. “We’ll see you for Season 3, at some point,” he told the audience during his acceptance speech.

After a series of speculations, Ted Lasso Season 3 will finally premiere on Wednesday, March 15 on Apple TV+. We will get to see a new episode every week.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Plot

The first season portrays how Ted impresses everyone with his personality and charm despite his limited experience in sports. At the end of the first season, Ted attempts to resign after AFC Richmond lost the final game.

The next season saw Ted and the team sweat hard to win the tournament. The second season also had Ted dealing with mental health issues and two teammates end up in a surprising love triangle with model Keeley Jones.

The previous season ends at a turning point when Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed) resigned as Richmond’s assistant coach and join as a new head coach for Rupert’s newly acquired West Ham United. So, the two rivals would be facing each other in the next season.

Season 3 summary as per Apple TV+

As per Apple’s official description, “The newly-promoted AFC Richmond faces ridicule as media predictions widely peg them as last in the Premier League and Nate (Nick Mohammed), now hailed as the ‘wonder kid,’ has gone to work for Rupert (Anthony Head) at West Ham United.”

“In the wake of Nate’s contentious departure from Richmond, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) steps up as assistant coach, alongside Beard (Brendan Hunt). Meanwhile, while Ted (Jason Sudeikis) deals with pressures at work, he continues to wrestle with his own personal issues back home, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) is focused on defeating Rupert and Keeley (Juno Temple) navigates being the boss of her own PR agency. Things seem to be falling apart both on and off the pitch, but Team Lasso is set to give it their best shot anyway.”

Most of the core members of the cast will be back for the third season. The show’s creator and star Jason Sudeikis will return for sure as Ted Lasso. He will be leading the way for his team once again. Hannah Waddingham will return as Rebecca Welton, AFC Richmond’s owner.

No points to guess, former AFC Richmond assistant coach Nathan Shelley will return as the new coach of West Ham Football Club. Anthony Head who portrays Rupert will be returning as the new owner of the West Ham Football Club.

Exec producer Bill Lawrence earlier confirmed that Sarah Niles will return as Dr Sharon Fieldstone, the sports psychologist who helped Ted deal with his panic attack in the second season. Guest star James Lance (who plays former sports columnist Trent Crimm) will also appear in a lead role.

It would be interesting to see if Juno Temple returns as Keeley Jones. She was one of the main characters in the second season following her love equation with Roy and Jamie. Phil Dunster, who portrays Jamie, and Brett Goldstein, who portrays Roy, are likely to return for the next season. Besides these several other characters are expected to return and we will also see many new faces.

How many episodes will there be in Ted Lasso Season 3?

Will there be Ted Lasso Season 4?

Several reports suggest that the third season will be the final season. Deadline reports the show’s writers and producers, including Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, and Bill Lawrence, have confirmed that they’re writing Season 3 as the series finale.

In an interview with Deadline, Lawrence said, “Even if Ted Lasso goes on, the story the writing staff has been telling had a beginning, middle, and end for the first three seasons.”

He said, “And then it might veer off from that.” But in the end, it’s up to Sudeikis, and he appears to be leaning more toward three-and-out rather than keeping the show going after the upcoming season.”
