  • Season 1 of School Spirits premiered on Paramount+ on March 9, 2023, and concluded its eight episodes run on April 12, 2023.
  • In June 2023, the series was renewed for a second season.

School Spirits is a supernatural teen drama television show, created by Megan Trinrud and Nate Trinrud. Peyton List plays Maddie Nears, a teen girl trapped in the afterlife who is researching her own unexplained disappearance. As she adjusts to high school purgatory, Maddie embarks on a crime-solving odyssey, but the closer she gets to learning the truth, the more secrets and lies she uncovers. The show is based on a graphic novel written by the show’s writers Nate and Megan Trinrud, and is set to hit stands on September 10, 2024.

While preserving all the drama and humor that are present in young adult shows, it is full of thrilling twists and turns and manages to combine the two in a way that feels refreshingly unique. It premiered on Paramount+ on March 9, 2023, and fans have been eagerly expecting the return of School Spirits Season 2 since its conclusion.

Has it already been renewed? When will it make its debut? What does it have in store for us? Are you also curious? if so, keep reading.

When will School Spirits Season 2 premiere?

In June 2023, the series was renewed for a second season, as per Deadline. School Spirits Season 2 announcement wasn’t a great surprise since the show immediately rose to the top of Paramount Plus’ most popular original series to date.

The renewal was announced in June 2023. But the series has been in limbo for a while thanks to the dual strike which put almost everything on halt for around six months.

In an exclusive interview with The Direct’s Russ Milheim, School Spirits star Kristian Ventura, who plays Simon, revealed when the team is planning to start filming for the second season. He stated that the production team is “looking at a summer start date” for the new episodes:

You know, everyone’s operating on their own schedules… They are writing the series. My best prediction is we’re all going to be in Vancouver in the summer. And it’s going to take a couple months for the writers to get back into the room and hash out the second season. I think we’re looking at a summer start date.

Season 1 took three months to film, spanning from August 2022 to November 2022, and was subsequently released five months later in March 2023. Following the same timeline, if the filming for School Spirits were to commence in June and conclude in Fall 2024, we can expect the second season to premiere in early 2025.

What will School Spirits Season 2 be about?

Well, whether Maddie will be able to free her body from Janet’s paranormal control is the key mystery of season 2. The two battle back and forth between two different planes of existence will probably make up the majority of the plot. Season 1’s main focus on Maddie’s crime-fighting in the afterlife will be drastically altered by this.

But in light of the new turn, the show looks to be taking, it now feels quite low-stakes. The second season of School Spirits might include additional background information on Janet’s past events that led her to take Maddie’s name and body.

However, this is just a hunch. The only way to know what season 2 will provide us is to get the official details. So stay tuned.
