Cowboy Bebop Season 2: Netflix Release Date, Plot, Cast and Latest Updates
Cowboy Bebop Season 2

Cowboy Bebop Season 2: Netflix is expected to renew the sci-fi series Cowboy Bebop for the second season by the end of 2021. Here is everything you need to know about it.

  • Cowboy Bebop Season 1 premiered on Netflix on Nov 19, 2021.
  • The Netflix sci-fi series is a live-action remake of the 1988 popular anime series of the same name.

Twenty-two years after the legendary Cowboy Bebop anime came to an end, its live-action remake arrived on Netflix on Nov 19, 2021. Set in the year 2171, the series focuses on the adventures of a group of Bounty Hunters who travel and chase down criminals across the Solar System on the Bebop spaceship.

The original anime series that came out in 1998 was a huge hit. Even after 22 years, it is considered one of the best animes of all time. That’s why when Netflix announced its live-action series, the fans were super excited. Now that Cowboy Bebop live-action series has premiered on Netflix, fans are wondering if there will be a second season. Well, that depends on several factors like how well the first season performs, source material available for adaptation etc.

Is there enough source material for Cowboy Bebop Season 2?

The first season of the live-action series hardly uses the source i.e. the anime series. The anime that came in 1988 has 26 episodes. Season 1 adapted just the first five episodes of the anime series. Moreover, one of the key characters, Ed, is only introduced in the first season. So, Netflix is wishing to continue the series with more seasons.

Will there be a Cowboy Bebop Season 2 on Netflix?

Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Cowboy Bebop for the second season. The streaming giant usually takes at least a month to officially renew their original shows. Having said that, Cowboy Bebop is one of the biggest Netflix releases of the year. Cowboy Bebop is a huge franchise with millions of fans from around the world. Netflix would love to exploit this fanbase. So, we have a feeling that the streaming giant would love to go ahead with Cowboy Bebop Season 2.

Why we are hopeful about Cowboy Bebop Season 2?

We are aware that André Nemec, the show’s developer is already working on a second season. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Nemec confirmed that he was planning season 2 while working on the first season.

One of the reasons we are hopeful about Cowboy Bebop’s return is the appearance of one of the lead characters Edward in the final episode of the first season. The genius prodigy kid wasn’t a part of Season 1’s plot. Just before the first season premiere, the official Twitter account for Cowboy Bebop hinted at Ed’s casting in the show. And recently, Netflix Geeked announced that the newcomer Eden Perkins is portraying Ed in live-action. Ed is one of the lead characters in the anime who could be explored in the second season.

Cowboy Bebop Season 2 Release Date on Netflix

It is difficult to predict the release date for the second season as Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the show. The first season took over two years to film thanks to COVID virus restrictions.

However, this time we are expecting the production to take place at a better pace. The good news is that the Cowboy Bebop writers are reportedly working on scripts. So as soon as Netflix officially renews the show, it won’t take long for the actors to go ahead with filming.

If Netflix renews Cowboy Bebop by the end of 2021, it would still be impossible to expect the second season to arrive in 2022. We are expecting the second season to arrive around the same time (last quarter) in 2023.

Cowboy Bebop Season 2 Cast

We can’t imagine Cowboy Bebop without Spike Spiegel. So, it is confirmed that John Cho will return as Spike Spiegel whenever the show returns. The other two lead bounty hunters, Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir) and  Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) should also return.

One of the lead characters of the anime, Edward “Radical Ed” introduced in the last moments of the first season will feature in the next season. Ed is played by newcomer Eden Perkins.

The villains of the first season, Adrienne Barbeau (Maria Murdock) and Josh Randall (Pierrot Le Fou) almost certainly won’t be returning. Two other key stars who might not appear in season two are the Welsh Corgi dogs called Charlie & Harry. Other cast members we can expect to see in season two are:

  • Elena Satine as Julia,
  • Alex Hassell as Vicious
  • Mason Alexander Park as Gren

Cowboy Bebop Season 2 Plot: What to expect from the second season?

Spike and his partners will be on the hunt for new criminals in a potential Cowboy Bebop Season 2. The first season ended with Julia (Elena Satine) becoming the new boss of the evil Syndicate. She shoots Spike and decides to hold Vicious prisoner. It would be interesting to see if Spike and Vicious put aside their differences and team up to stop her.

In the end, we learn from Ed (Eden Perkins) that Julia has information on a man named Volaju. Vincent Volaju appears to be the big bad from the 2001’s  Cowboy Bebop animated movie.
