As of September 2023, the prospects of another installment of Top Boy look feeble, marking the conclusion of the series following two seasons of “Top Boy: Summerhouse” and three of “Top Boy.”
Ashley Walters, who portrays DuShane, disclosed to GQ that the fifth season was intended to be the final one.
He mentioned, “Kane [Sully] and I were like, personally, we can’t. We don’t think it’s the right thing to do. It may have gone on too long anyway.”
“Not that it’s not been great and the seasons have all been great and everyone’s loved them and I’ve loved them,” he continued, “but it wouldn’t have been right. I like to end on a high.”
One of the directors William Stefan Smith also said something similar: “It’s the British way. Historically, British shows end early. We don’t push them into six or seven seasons,” he added.
Will there be a Top Boy Spin-Off?
While the creators have not officially announced a potential Top Boy spin-off series, one can reasonably assume that many fans would eagerly welcome the return of certain characters.
Although the actors who portray DuShane and Sully (Ashley Walters and Kano) have ruled out a return to the Summerhouse estate, this doesn’t necessarily preclude the return of other characters.
There’s potential for younger characters like Stefan and Erin to make a comeback as they cope up with the challenges of growing up in the aftermath of Top Boy season 5.
What happened in Top Boy Season 3?
Top Boy Season 3 picks up where the previous seasons left off, delving deeper into the gritty world of drug trafficking, gang violence, and urban survival in East London’s fictional Summerhouse estate. The story follows Dushane (played by Ashley Walters) and Sully (played by Kane Robinson, also known as rapper Kano) as they navigate the dangerous criminal underworld, facing new challenges and threats.
After Jamie’s killing, Sully issued a warning, demanding to Dushane step down as the leader of the Summerhouse gang, or face fatal consequences. Reluctantly, Dushane complied, ceding leadership to Sully and his close associate, Junior. This transition allowed Dushane more time to concentrate on aiding Shelley in expanding her business.

Haunted by Jamie’s demise, Stefan moved to a care facility, where he found solace under the guidance of Jamie’s friend and fellow ZT member, Si. Si urged Stefan to seek retribution for his brother’s death, but Stefan opted to pursue a different path by initiating a relationship with Dris’ daughter, Erin, who had taken up residence with her mother and Dris’ bereaved girlfriend, Mandy.
Lauryn’s battle with post-natal depression following the birth of her baby boy has become a source of concern for Jaq.
The concluding episode of Top Boy leaves us with a significant question: Who pulled the trigger on Sully? Just as it appeared that Sully would emerge triumphant, an unidentified individual in a black hoodie opened fire on him. The episode concluded, leaving the resolution of Sully’s assailant in the hands of the viewer.
