Animal Kingdom Season 7: Why the show has been cancelled?

Neither showrunners nor TNT has disclosed the real reason why Animal Kingdom was cancelled. As far as we understand, TNT ended the series due to its gradual shift to more unscripted programs.

Animal Kingdom has been one of the most popular shows for years on TNT with good viewership numbers. However, the network is gradually moving to more unscripted shows, and scrapping Animal Kingdom could be part of the plan.

Well, six full-fledged seasons is a pretty good journey for a cable show. It’s challenging for cable shows to go on much longer than five years unless they are super successful like The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.

It doesn’t seem that the cast and crew were happy with the show’s cancellation. The showrunner, Daniele Nathanson, told TV Fanatic, “Basically, I did not want the audience to feel that they were not given a worthy finale of something that we’ve all invested a lot of time in. In terms of the pressure, you know, of course!”

Daniele added, “I hope it’ll be remembered as an exciting, adrenaline-filled, fun show that is also a dark family drama that deals with intergenerational trauma and the love of brothers.”

Although the season finale was heavy on viewers and they were sad to see their favourite stars go, the cast said one last goodbye to viewers on social media.

A tweet posted by the official Twitter read, “Here’s a sincere ‘thank you’ from all of us at Animal Kingdom. Whether you’ve been with us since day one or joined the Codys along the way, thank you for one hell of a ride.”

While the main story ends with season six, fans are assured that the series would return in a spin-off or prequel form.

Will there be a spin-off?

Fans have found themselves craving for a spinoff in which Jake Weary’s Deran strikes back at dangerous nephew J (Finn Cole). Is this a potential for a spin-off?

Showrunner Daniele Nathanson isn’t aware of any development. He tells TVLine “I haven’t heard anything. Those decisions are made above me. But I think the ending is supposed to feel like an ending.”

Where to watch Animal Kingdom?

In the United States, you can watch all six seasons of this gritty drama on Amazon Prime Video. Outside the United States, Animal Kingdom is a Netflix original. All seasons are available on the streamer.
