Sushmita Sen made an impressive comeback and digital debut in 2020 with the web series Aarya. The first season of the crime drama series dropped on Disney+ Hotstar on June 19, 2020. The creators renewed the series for a second season in July 2021, and it premiered on December 10, 2021. Based on the Dutch drama series Penoza, Aarya was renewed for a third season in July 2022.
The series follows a woman who has to join a mafia gang and avenge her slain husband. Sushmita plays the title role of Aarya Sareen, a fierce mother who has to keep her family safe from the world of crime. The first season was nominated for Best Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards.

Aarya Season 3 Filming Details
In December 2022, Sushmita Sen gave a glimpse of her time with the team of Aarya as they kickstarted the workshop for Season 3. In the first photo, Sushmita can be seen with Sikandar Kher, director Ram Madhvani and his wife Amita.
The filming for the third season started in January 2023. The makers revealed a small teaser to announce the beginning of the shoot.

When the filming was in full swing, Sushmita suffered a massive heart attack in February. She resumed filming after two months in April. Hotstar released a teaser when Sushmita resumed filming.
In the new teaser of “Aarya”, shared by Disney+ Hotstar on its official Twitter page, Sen is seen practising for a sword fight.
On June 4, 2023, Sushmita Sen confirmed that she had finished filming for the third season. The 47-year-old actor shared the update with fans and followers through an Instagram post.

Aarya Season 3 Expected Plot
The series is a remake of the Dutch television series Penoza. A woman is the protagonist of the show, and she seeks revenge for her husband’s murder by joining a mafia group. The show depicts Aarya Sareen’s (Sushmita) journey from desperately trying to come out of her late husband’s business of illegal drugs to taking over the business herself and then becoming a mafia leader. She’s portrayed as a tough woman who tries hard to protect her family over and over.
As we have seen Aarya protecting her family in both seasons, the new season is expected to revolve around the same. Will she be trapped in the dirt forever? Or will she start a whole new life with her family?
What Sushmita said about Season 3?
Sushmita Sen talked about the upcoming season and assured all that it will be a ‘new dawn’. “It is a new dawn for Aarya Sareen, and she is fierce. In season 3, she is going places and starting her own story free from the obstacles of her past. Reprising the role of Aarya is like slipping into old jeans but for a brand-new journey. It feels great to be back with Ram Madhvani and the Disney+ Hotstar team, can’t wait to return the love and appreciation viewers have showered on Aarya,” she had said.
Sushmita Sen thanked the creators for the character and audiences for appreciating her performance over the past seasons. “I have lived as Aarya for two whole seasons and the love received by the audiences has only encouraged me to do more. Walking on the sets of Aarya season 3 makes me feel at home and gives me a sense of empowerment,” PTI quoted Sen.
“Aarya stands for strength and her unabashed spirit is now an inevitable part of me. With Aarya, I stepped into a whole new territory and channelled her fearless aura to navigate further into her character.
“Now that we’ve seen her ace the game, it’s time to take things up a notch higher and try something we’ve never done before… I am excited to dive into this new side of my character, especially with the swordplay that Aarya learns as her personality evolves and she comes more into her own,” the former Miss Universe said in a statement.
