The Mauritanian starring Jodie Foster and Tahar Rahim is all set for a theatrical release in the US and UK.

2021 will be a big year for cinema lovers as a number of highly anticipated movies are all set to hit the big screens. One of them is Kevin Macdonald’s is legal drama movie The Mauritanian. It is based on the 2015 journal, Guantánamo Diary by Mohamedou Ould Salahi, a true story of Salahi’s experience of being held for fourteen years without charge in Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

During its development and pre-production, the movie was titled Guantánamo Diary. During filming the title was Prisoner 760. In November 2020, the final title was revealed to be The Mauritanian.

Before its theatrical release, The Mauritanian has had its virtual screening at various events and film festivals. It received mixed reviews, but Jodie Foster and Tahar Rahim’s performances were appreciated. They received nominations at the 78th Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama, respectively.

In the United States, the movie will release on Feb 12, 2021. At the box office, it will clash with Judas and the Black Messiah, and Minari. In the UK, The Mauritanian will release on Feb 26, 2021, ahead of the 78th Golden Globe Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place on Feb 28, 2021.
