Team Uri To Reunite For A Period Drama Film, Vicky Kaushal To Lead

Actor Vicky Kaushal reunites with Uri: The Surgical Strike director Aditya Dhar and producer Ronnie Screwvala for a period drama film.

After the blockbuster success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, actor Vicky Kaushal, director Aditya Dhar, and producer Ronnie Screwvala, are coming together for a period drama film.

Announcing the news on his Twitter account, film critic and trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, “BIGGG NEWS. Uri team reunites for a period war film. Actor Vicky Kaushal, director Aditya Dhar and producer Ronnie Screwvala. The film [not titled yet] will be shot all over India. Mid-2020 release.”

Vicky too shared the news on his Instagram story. He wrote, “Up next, by Team URI!”

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Vicky Kaushal will be seen playing the role of the Mahabharata character Ashwatthama (who fought against the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War), in the film.

A report in Mirror said, “After Uri, the makers wanted to return with something big and interesting. Aditya has been working on this script since a long time, even before Uri released, and when he sounded out Ronnie and Vicky, they immediately jumped on board. The film will be mounted on a big scale and will be shot later this year. Aditya is already neck-deep in research and will go on a recce soon. The film will be shot all over India and the makers are targetting a mid-2020 release.”

On the work front, Kaushal is currently busy with Shoojit Sircar’s Udham Singh biopic. He also has Karan Johar’s Takht in his pipeline which also stars Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor.

Released on 11 Jan 2019, Uri: The Surgical Strike is based on the 2016 surgical strike conducted by Indian Army following the attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri town.

Uri: The Surgical Strike turned out a sleeper hit at the box office. It earned 245 crores at the domestic box office and is currently the highest grossing movie of the year.
