Surface Season 2 Release: Is Apple TV+’s psychological thriller getting another season?

Surface is an American psychological thriller miniseries created by Veronica West starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Sophie who survives a suicide attempt. Still, in the process, she loses her recent memories, including the reason why she decided to commit suicide in the very first place. The series follows Sophie trying to identify the reasons for her attempted suicide.
The show is produced for Apple TV+ by Apple Studios and Hello Sunshine. Emmy Award-nominee Sam Miller directed four episodes of the series, including the pilot, and is also the executive producer of the show. Such entities made the viewers very keen about the series and here is all we know if Surface will receive a second season or not.

Surface received a fairly good amount of reviews after its first season’s release. But it also made the viewers start to wonder whether the show will be renewed for another season by Apple TV+.
The review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, reported a 53% approval rating with an average rating of 6.3/10, based on 17 critics’ reviews. The website’s critics’ consensus reads, “Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s captivating performance gives Surface some depth, but this overheated potboiler only gets murkier the more it tries to spice up a derivative amnesia mystery.”
On IMDb, the series has an average score of 6.1 out of 10. Metacritic, gave the series a score of 47 out of 100 based on 14 critics, indicating “mixed or average reviews.”
According to critic, Brian Tallerico, “The main problem is that everyone here is forced into inconsistent characters by the nature of the script.”
Though the reviews are below par, the story of season one has the potential to have a sequel, in which the showrunners could improve upon the elements like script and inconsistency in characterization.
The first season has an intriguing premise and that’s the reason the viewers would love to see the second season. Thus, it won’t be surprising if Surface gets renewed for a second season. Here’s all we know about the Surface Season 2.
Surface Season 2: Renewal Status
As on Sep 15, 2022, there is any official update on Surface Season 2. Given Apple’s great track record with renewals, we’ll have to wait and see if they decide to renew this for another season. Even if it is renewed for another season it is not likely to be released soon.
Surface’s first season ended on Sep 2, 2022, with an episode named, See You on the Other Side. It’s been only a few days since the first season concluded, so, it is too early to ask for a renewal.
Apple TV+ usually look at several elements like viewership, audience, and critic reaction, before renewing any series. Surface Season 2 Plot
Season 1 of Surface ended on a diplomatic note and if the series is renewed, the plot from the finale episode, See You on The Other Side will be continued. The episode had Sophie to have been apprehensive about her future with James and her will to move forward even though certain questions about her past still linger.

The basic plot of Surface is about Sophie (played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a woman who has suffered a traumatic head injury that has left her with extreme memory loss as a result of a said suicide attempt.
As Sophie embarks on a quest to put the pieces of her life back together with the help of her husband and friends, she begins to question whether or not the truth she is told is, in fact, the truth she has lived. Surface is a story of self-discovery which makes us question if we are who we think we are or if we are programmed to be who we are today.
