After only six of the show’s first 10-episode run, Peacock renewed Poker Face for the second season. With an early renewal in February 2023, fans were hoping that the upcoming season would debut by the end of 2023. But it is not going to be the case due to the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
According to Variety, Poker Face Season 2’s premiere is now delayed to 2024 due to the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
Poker Face creator Rian Johnson has been quite vocal about the WGA strike. He has previously tweeted in support of the movement:
“Not bullshit! Support writers, support our union #WGAstrong”
Johnson also expressed his support for Poker Face scribe Gillian Flynn on Twitter, appraising the writers of his show.
“Our show was built by an incredible room of hard working writers, support the #WGA and let’s get a fair deal.”
Another showrunner Lilla Zuckerman also made it clear on Twitter that she supports the ongoing strike as well.
Johnson and Zuckerman’s all-out support of the WGA means that the writing for the second season is currently on halt, indicating that production won’t begin until after the strike.

The showrunners of Poker Face, Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, are already preparing for the future now that they have an early renewal under their belt. Since Rian Johnson and Lyonne are aware that this is precisely what viewers of this type of lighthearted murder mystery want, Season 2 will be different as well as similar.
Creator Rian Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter (THR) that the show is “something that’s obviously built with an engine to keep going:”
“Natasha and I keep talking about getting old doing this. I can imagine her Jessica Fletcher-ing it. And I would be thrilled. But, we’ll see. I’ve learned: One step at a time. Let’s put this out there and see if people watch it first. But this is something that’s obviously built with an engine to keep on going.”
Season 2 of Poker Face is expected to delve into the aftermath of Season 1’s conclusion, where Charlie finds himself at odds with a formidable new rival, the notorious crime lord Beatrix Hasp.
