A few days ago several reports were claiming that Mindhunter Season 3 is in pre-production. Now, one of the directors has urged fans to “make enough noise” to make it a possibility.

Netflix’s psychological crime drama thriller Mindhunter has a huge fanbase across the globe. The second season of the engaging psychological drama premiered on Netflix on Aug 16, 2019. Since then there has been uncertainly about what the future holds for Netflix’s series.

Last month, several reports claimed that Mindhunter Season 3 is in pre-production. Now one of the series directors has urged fans to “make enough noise” so the series can return for a third season.

While Fincher has said a third season of the series is probably dead, Asif Kapadia is confident that if the fans make enough noise then the series would return for its third season.

Asif Kapadia – who directed two Minhunter episodes in season one – has supported fans who are demanding Season 3.

“Audiences around the world need let @netflix know that there is a real interest & demand for Season 3 of @MINDHUNTER_ if you make enough noise, It might actually happen…. #DavidFincher #mindhunter,” he tweeted.

What happened after Season 3?

In January 2020, Netflix put Mindhunter Season 3 on indefinite hold. A Netflix insider told TVLine, “David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots, he may revisit Mindhunter in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.

Back in 2020, Fincher said, “Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show. We talked about ‘Finish ‘Mank’ and then see how you feel,’ but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less than I did Season 2. And on some level, you have to be realistic about dollars have to equal eyeballs.”

Around three months ago, a report claimed that discussions between Netflix officials and Fincher for Mindhunter Season 3 are currently underway.

Small Screen reported, “All I can really tell you about Mindhunter is that conversations between Netflix and Fincher are ongoing. They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season. It’s still very early days, but Fincher sounds more upbeat about the project.”

In Sep 2020, Tech Radar recently noted that Mindhunter Season 3 is currently in its early stage of development. Fans are now getting restless as Netflix isn’t really clarifying the status of the project.

As the things stand today, Fincher is planning to begin production on his next movie, “The Killer,” in Paris next month.

So, fans can continue to hope as Mindhunter is one of the best shows on the streamer and there is enough demand for its third season. Moreover, the streaming giant has not yet officially cancelled the series. Let’s hope Fincher revisit ‘Mindhunter’ in the near future.

Mindhunter is based on the true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. You can watch the first two seasons of Mindhunter on Netflix.
