Several reports are claiming that Mindhunter Season 3 is currently in pre-production but Netflix is still silent on its renewal.
It’s been a while since the fans watched the new chapter of Netflix’s psychological crime thriller Mindhunter. The second season of the impactful psychological drama premiered on Netflix on Aug 16, 2019. It’s been more than two years and still, we don’t have concrete information about the next chapter of the series.
Around two months ago, a report claimed that discussions between Netflix officials and Fincher for Mindhunter Season 3 are currently underway.
Small Screen reported, “All I can really tell you about Mindhunter is that conversations between Netflix and Fincher are ongoing. They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season. It’s still very early days, but Fincher sounds more upbeat about the project.”
Last month, Tech Radar recently noted that Mindhunter Season 3 is currently in its early stage of development. Fans are now getting restless as Netflix is still silent on the show’s renewal despite several reports claiming the third season to be in pre-production.
Fans can continue to hope as Mindhunter is one of the best shows on the streamer and there is enough demand for its third season. Moreover, the streaming giant has not yet officially cancelled the series.
The first season premiered on Netflix on October 13, 2017, and the second instalment premiered worldwide on August 16, 2019. There was a time gap of around two years between the first and second seasons. The last two years have been tough for the entertainment industry due to the pandemic.
In January 2020, Netflix put Mindhunter season 3 on indefinite hold. A Netflix insider told TVLine, “David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots, he may revisit Mindhunter in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
As things stand today, Mank premiered on Netflix on Nov 13, 2020, and received positive reviews. It has been nominated for ten Academy Awards. So, fans can hope Fincher to work on Mindhunter Season 3 sooner or later.
