Despite boycotts, protests, litigation, and other legal issues, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha performed exceptionally well at the international box office. This film was famous like NFL Odds, adding to the legacy of one of the top films.
Laal Singh Chaddha, a film starring Aamir Khan, may have bombed domestically, but much to the surprise of many, it broke an international box office record. According to Bollywood Hungama, the remake of Forrest Gump is currently the highest-grossing Hindi film in international markets.
Despite a sluggish start in India, the film has grossed more money outside than Gangubai Kathiawadi and The Kashmir Files, both of which starred Alia Bhatt and Anupam Kher.

Most of the movie takes place aboard a moving train as Laal, an Indian-Sikh, reveals his life story to apprehensive and intrigued fellow passengers. Many critics, including his own country, have given the film a lukewarm rating. Social media users have been calling for a boycott of the film even before its release, causing boycotts to trend on Twitter.
After the release of his 2015 film “PK,” Khan’s public comments regarding religious intolerance in India prompted many Hindu nationalists to protest.
The Backlash
“Laal Singh Chaddha,” the return film of Aamir Khan, performed poorly at the Indian box office. Call it the boycott effect or poor quality, but the film has become a nightmare for everyone involved. The international collection has been the only bright point in an otherwise bleak circumstance.
The much-discussed and highly-anticipated Aamir Khan film “Laal Singh Chaddha” made news in the weeks preceding its release. Advait Chandan is adapting Tom Hanks’s “Forrest Gump” into a movie, and Kareena Kapoor Khan is also set to star in it.
There was intense rivalry for the film on the domestic market, resulting in a Day 1 gross of Rs. 11.70 cr. After the second weekend, it had grossed around Rs. 55.53 cr during its whole run.
According to a previous post on Bollywood Hungama, Laal Singh Chaddha was Aamir’s poorest film since Mela in 2000. In addition, this is the first time since 1947’s Earth and Mela that Aamir has had consecutive flops.
“Laal Singh Chaddha” is a film directed by Advait Chandan and starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya.
Khan’s most recent film was 2018’s “Thugs Of Hindostan.” After a four-year absence, “Laal Singh Chaddha” returned to the big screen. The new film had been in development for quite some time, and as it was Mr. Perfectionist’s comeback feature, there were high expectations for it.
But things began to deteriorate when the boycott trend made people unhappy even before the film’s release.
Alia Bhatt’s “Gangubai Kathiawadi” by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani’s “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,” and Vivek Agnihotri’s much-discussed “The Kashmir Files” were among the few Bollywood films that performed well at the box office in 2017.
Gangubai Kathiawadi made $7.47 million, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” made $5.88 million and The Kashmir Files produced $5.7 million. In less than one week, “Laal Singh Chaddha” grossed more money than all of those films, with $7.5 million in a week.
In India, though, all three films were enormous hits. However, “RRR” has earned almost $20 million from sales in other nations.
The film was in production before the pandemic, but production was halted due to the Covid-19 outbreak in India. The film was shot in sections over the next three years.
Khan is well-known in China, where his previous films have been screened. Nonetheless, the film has not yet been screened there.
There is still a possibility that the film will generate revenue at the box office if it performs well in China (which, in turn, depends on whether or not it even gets a China release). In the years following the pandemic, the region had a reputation for being closed to international filmmakers.
Due to the success of Secret Superstar and Dangal, Aamir continues to be a well-known actor. His 2018 film “Thugs of Hindostan” performed poorly in China as well.
