Cheer is a sports docuseries that follows Navarro College’s top cheerleading team, the Bulldogs Cheer Team from Corsicana, Texas. The first season of this critically acclaimed series premiered on Netflix on Jan 8, 2020. It’s been around two years since the first season arrived on Netflix. The fans are now getting impatient and asking about the future of the documentary. Well, they have no need to worry as the sports docuseries is set to return. In fact, we won’t have to wait much longer, with Cheer season two arriving on Netflix next week. Here’s what we know about Cheer Season 2.

Cheer Season 2 Release Date on Netflix

The second season of Cheer will arrive on Netflix on Wednesday, Jan 12, 2022.

Cheer Season 2: Cast and Characters

Several prominent members featured in the first season are returning. Monica Aldam returns as cheerleading coach of Navarro College. Internet sensation and Youtuber Gabi Butler is also returning. She is one of the famous cheerleaders in the world. Navarro College’s top cheerleader and TV personality Lexi Brumback will also feature in the second instalment. They’ll be joined once again by teammates La’Darius Marshall and Morgan Simianer.

The new season two will feature several new cast members, including Navarro’s latest inductee Maddy Brum, former child spectacle Cassadee Dunlap and newcomer Gillian Rupert. Season one cast member Jerry Harris will also feature as the new season will address the charges of child pornography made against him in September 2020.

The second season will introduce us to the team of Trinity Valley Community College. Joining the cast are TVCC’s coach Vontae Johnson, assistant coach Khris Franklin, leader Jada Wooten, Jeron Hazelwood and tumblers DeVonte ‘Dee’ Joseph and Angel Rice.

Is there a trailer for Season 2?

On Dec 28, 2021, Netflix released the trailer for the second season. The summary is as follows:

“The Emmy-winning breakout sensation is back and the stakes have never been higher. As Season 2 opens and the buzz around their newfound stardom threatens to alter the dynamic of Navarro Cheer, the team finds no amount of press frenzy could compare to the challenges they must face when COVID-19 upends the 2020 cheer season and a serious criminal accusation is levied at one of their teammates. Against that dramatic backdrop, the 9-episode season expands to showcase Navarro’s fiercest rival: Trinity Valley Community College. As with the Navarro team, TVCC has a charismatic coach and breakout stars whose struggles, triumphs and stories extend far beyond the mat. As both teams push for the 2021 championship in Daytona, familiar faces take compelling detours and new contenders make a name for themselves.”

Cheer Season 2 Plot

As the summary explains, Season two will see how Navarro Cheer team members deal with the stardom, following the success of the first season. The upcoming season will also see La’Darius Marshall clash with a new assistant coach when Monica Aldama leaves to compete in Dancing with the Stars.

Cheer Season 2 will address the allegations against Harris, and in an episode that focuses on the misconduct charges, the brothers who first came forward about Harris are interviewed.

In September 2020, Harris was accused of convincing minors to send him sexually explicit photos and videos of themselves, which he denied.

Director Greg Whiteley said of the new season: “The news of Jerry’s investigation broke on the same day that Monica was making her premiere on Dancing with the Stars. I was floored and heartbroken.

“The series covers events as they unfolded, beginning in January 2020 through April 2021, so the charges against Jerry Harris are covered in depth in episode five. But we felt it was important to let viewers know upfront that it’s not something we ignore, which is why we acknowledge it at the beginning of the first episode.”

How many episodes are there in Season 2?

There are a total of 9 episodes in the second season, three more compared to the first season.

With a few days left for the second season premiere, you can watch Cheer Season 1 on Netflix.
