Upcoming Marvel Movies 2022: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and more Marvel movies to release in 2022.
In today’s world, who doesn’t love Marvel? It could be the comics or the movies, or even both!
The wildly successful Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home kicked off a bold new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021, but Marvel Studios has not been resting on their laurels in terms of upcoming cinematic blockbusters.
Bringing new movies of our favorite superheroes, let us take a look at what MCU has planned for 2022 in phase four. A look at Upcoming Marvel Movies 2022 with the release date, cast, plot & other details.
*spoilers ahead*
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Release Date: May 6, 2022
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, and others.
Director: Sam Raimi
If you had to describe this superhero, well, he kicks ass. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness appears to have the potential to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s storytelling capabilities like something we have never seen or experienced before. And that is based only on the name. Dr. Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the door to the multiverse and introduces an alternate version of Strange, whose threat to humanity is too significant for Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch’s joined forces.
There are several connections between this film and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With its multiversal goals, the picture will tie to the events of Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff post-WandaVision. Given how badly the excellent Doctor screwed up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, we are expecting nothing less than an absolute disaster in this film. It is going to be chaotic, but we are here for it!
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release Date: July 8, 2022
Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper.
Director: Taika Waititi
And the great Taika Waititi is back. The man who wrote and directed the fantastic Thor: Ragnarok, is back to write and direct this fourth chapter of the Thor series. Chris Hemsworth is back, and Natalie Portman is the new Thor (yes, Jane Foster will wield the hammer, Mjollnir, just like she did in the comics). Gorr, the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale, is a scary one. Not only that, but with Russell Crowe as Zeus, this film will finally bring the Olympians into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, is Hercules also close behind?
Oh, and the Guardians of the Galaxy will be present as well with Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Vin Diesel returning as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax the Destroyer, Nebula, and Groot, respectively, plus Sean Gunn reprising his role as Kraglin Obfonteri from previous films.
Chris Hemsworth showed interest in reprising his role as Thor in January 2018, despite his Marvel Studios contract expiring after Avengers: Endgame. Good decision, was it not?
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Release Date: November 11, 2022
Cast: Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, and Dominique Thorne.
Director: Ryan Coogler
The sequel to Black Panther is currently known as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marvel has said unequivocally that they have no plans to remake the character of T’Challa following the unfortunate and untimely death of Chadwick Boseman, which is the correct decision. Some of the primary returning cast members had been confirmed for this upcoming sequel.
Coogler is also bringing a Wakanda TV series to Disney Plus at some point in the future, and we have a feeling this Wakanda-centric sequel title is a portent of things to come.
Oh, and a surprise – Dominique Thorne will reprise her role as Riri Williams/Ironheart, which she will play in the Disney Plus series Ironheart.
So, these are the three biggies Marvel Studios has planned to release in 2022. Apart from these movies, w will see more of Marvels in the form of web and mini-series. These are:
- Moon Knight premiere on March 30, 2022
- Ms. Marvel premieres on June 8, 2022
- She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Auh 17, 2022
Besides, we will also get to see two special titles, Untitled Halloween special to premiere in Oct 2022 followed by The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in Dec 2022.
The movies mentioned above will first release in theatres followed by digital premieres on Disney Plus. The web series and special titles will be made available to stream on Disney Plus.
