Yash Raj Films(YRF) announced that the commercially successful Vidya Balan starrer ‘Kahaani’ which was released in 2012 will be remade for the international audience and it will be called ‘Deity’.
Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, ‘Kahaani’ was critically acclaimed and successful at Box Office thanks to Vidya’s intense-power packed acting and engrossing story line of the movie.Vidya had also received Best Actor(Female) Award of the year adding another feather to her cap after the huge hit ‘The Dirty Picture’.
The remake will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” fame. Jose Rivera and Richard Regen will script the adaption.
‘Deity’ will be a thriller about an American pregnant woman who goes to Kolkata to find her missing husband. In d midst of her search she finds herself in dangerous conspiracies. The plot unfolds in the midst of a colorful – weeklong festival in the city.
Niels guarantees that the movie will be thrilling and exciting with interesting characters which will be loved by the international audience. The movie will be financed by YRF entertainment and the production starts in February 2015.
Uday Chopra, son of Yash Chopra and also the CEO of YRF Entertainment confirms that he feels Neils is the perfect director to transform the appeal of ‘Kahaani’ to ‘Deity’.
Sujoy Ghosh loved the initiative taken by YRF to remake his film, “Years back Aditya Chopra had said he wanted to make Kahaani for a global audience. I thought he was kidding. But obviously not. YRF has left no stone unturned on making the English version. The new script is perfectly suited for the Western audience and what I am really looking forward is to see Niels direct this version. I’m sure he will bring a unique vision to ‘Deity’.
Lets hope the international audience will love the transformation from ‘Kahaani’ to ‘Deity’.
