Vikings: Valhalla is a historical drama series created by Jeb Stuart. The show is a spin-off to History Channel’s series Vikings. The series is set one hundred years after the events of Vikings. It chronicles the beginning of the end of the Viking Age, marked by the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.

Supposing that you’ve already binged all the battles and betrayals of season two of Vikings Valhalla. In that case, the good news is that a third season of the Vikings spin-off series and probably, the last season of Vikings: Valhalla is on its way.

Here is all we know about the next season of Vikings: Valhalla.

When will Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 be on Netflix?

The first season of the sequel series first launched on Netflix on February 2022 and the second season followed 11 months later on January 12, 2023.

In February 2023, Netflix confirmed that season 3 would return to Netflix sometime in 2024. Our best guess is that the third season will drop in Q1 2024 (between January 1st and March 31st).

Like the previous two seasons, the third will also have eight episodes. Season 3 wrapped filming before season 2 even dropped onto the service.

In an interview with E! Online, Frida Gustavsson, who plays the role of Freydis, has confirmed the speculations, saying:

“We’ve already shot (season 3) and it’s incredible,” she said. “It’s so good. And I just can’t wait for the world to see it. But you’re gonna have to wait a little bit longer!”

Sam Corlett, who plays Leif Eriksson, told Esquire about the pressures of filming the first three seasons – and hinted that there may even be a fourth in the works, even if it may not go into production for some time.

What will be the plot of Vikings: Valhalla Season 3?

As expected, the story will pick up the pace from where it left its loose ends. We do not know whether the ends will be fully tied or left loose for another season.

Vikings Valhalla season 2 had the warriors scattered in completely different paths. The final episode of the season, “The Reckoning” marked Leif’s heart-wrenching farewell. With the imminent battle coming to its completion, the conflict to conquer Norway has only begun.

The three main characters Freydis Eriksdottír (Frida Gustavsson), Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett), and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) are on separate journeys. Freydis’ path took her to the legendary Viking stronghold of Jomsborg, where she journeyed to give birth to her son. On the other hand, Leif and Harald took on a daring journey across the waters of the Baltic Sea to the city of Constantinople. With their differing paths seemingly drawing them further and further away from one another, we can only wonder what the new season holds for them.

Due to the series’ undue number of historical inaccuracies, it is difficult to predict what lies ahead.

Creator Jeb Stuart told Digital Spy, “Season three is very exciting and my Vikings get out of Scandinavia, so we have lots of great surprises and stories for season three.”

The third season teaser promises more bloodbaths and battles as the conflict over Norway continues.

Who are the returning and new cast members for Vikings: Valhalla Season 3?

It is hard to say how many characters will return in Season 3 given that the previous season had innumerable deaths and dismemberment. However, Netflix Life has confirmed the following cast members to return in season three, Sam Corlett (Leif Eriksson), Frida Gustavsson (Freydis), and Leo Suter (Harald).

Other than that the other cast members that are expected to return are”

  • Bradley Freegard as King Canute
  • Laura Berlin as Queen Emma
  • David Oakes as Earl Godwin
  • Søren Pilmark as King Sweyn Forkbeard
  • Ruben Lawless as Harald Harefoot

New cast members fans will be excited to see are:

  • Florian Munteanu as George Maniakes
  • Goran Visnjic as Erik the Red, the father of Leif and Freydis
  • Set Sjöstrand as Magnus Olafsson
  • Christian Vit as The Emir
  • Cosimo Fusco as Cardinal

Will there be Vikings: Valhalla Season 4?

From the beginning, the plan has always been three seasons; however, creators would love to go past three seasons.

Showrunner Jeb Stuart expressed his desire to go beyond season 3, telling DigitalSpy:

“My story carries on past [a third season] and I would love more time to tell the full story. I would love more time to get to the fact that William the Conqueror puts an end to the Viking Age.”

Where to watch Vikings: Valhalla?

Vikings: Valhalla is exclusively available on Netflix across the globe. Talking about the original Vikings series, most regions of Netflix are streaming all six seasons. Netflix UK and US will get all six seasons in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
