The White Lotus Season 3: The dark comedy drama series will return for its third installment, this time with a location reportedly in Thailand.
The White Lotus can’t stop taking reservations and has returned for season 3. Created by Mike White, this HBO’s Emmy-winning anthology series centers on the guests and employees of the name-brand resort chain whose interactions are impacted by their various psychological dysfunctions, with each season taking place in a different idyllic location. The series debuted on July 11, 2022, and thus far has promised to be an addictive concoction of suspense, scandal, and surprising twists that the fans can’t get enough of.
So, when HBO’s The White Lotus season two ended, fans instantly turned their attention to the upcoming episodes and wondered whether there would be a third season or if it was time to say goodbye. Will there be The White Lotus Season 3?
Yes! HBO officially renewed The White Lotus for a third season back in November 2022. Expect a refreshing change of setting and an array of intriguing new characters. As per the network’s announcement, the anthology series will make a comeback, featuring a brand-new group of vacationers who will check into a different White Lotus hotel.
“Reflecting on The White Lotus humble, run-and-gun origin as a contained pandemic production, it’s impossible not to be awestruck by how Mike orchestrated one of the buzziest and most critically acclaimed shows,” Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films, said in a press statement.
“And yet, he’s only continued to reach new heights in season 2, which is the ultimate testament to Mike’s raw, unparalleled vision. His courage to explore the uncharted waters of the human psyche, paired with his signature irreverent humor and buoyant directing style, have us all dreaming of more vacation days at the resort we’ve come to adore. We couldn’t be more thrilled to get the chance to collaborate on a third season together.”

The White Lotus Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere on HBO?
Initially, the show was expected to premiere in 2024, with HBO Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys saying that it “probably would have been [released in] 2024” during an HBO and Max presentation on Nov 2, 2023.
While an early renewal announcement for the show was given to fans, production was put on hold due to the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes. As a result, HBO announced that The White Lotus Season 3 has been pushed back to 2025.
Deadline reported that production is scheduled to start in February 2024 in Thailand.
The White Lotus Season 3 Plot
The series transports us to a new luxurious island retreat where the lives of the guests intertwine, revealing hidden desires, dark secrets, and the quest for self-discovery. Also, the series addresses themes of power, identity, and the extent people will go to protect their place in a changing society against the backdrop of paradise. However, no official narrative for season 3 has been revealed by the makers. But the future season is slated to be in Asia, with production likely to occur in one of Thailand’s Four Seasons resort chains.
Director Mike White offered some details on the potential theme of the upcoming season. “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then, the second season is sex. And I think the third season it would be maybe a kind of satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. And it feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
White also hinted at the possibility of elements from season two carrying over into the third season. Specifically, the plot involving the murder-for-hire scheme entangling Greg (played by Jon Gries), Tanya’s husband, and Portia (played by Haley Lu Richardson), her assistant, who had only just begun to uncover the truth.
“I think as far as like, what happens to Greg and the conspiracy of Tanya’s death, it’s possible that I think Portia is scared enough to just leave it alone, but the fact that all of those guys die on the boat, it feels like there’s gotta be somebody who’s gonna track it back down to Greg. But maybe you’ll have to wait to find out what happens.”
Season 3 will be set in Thailand
According to Variety, the upcoming season will be set in Thailand.
The two seasons were shot at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy, respectively. Therefore, Season 3 may take place at one of the luxury hotel giant’s four properties in Thailand, which are located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and the Golden Triangle. Thailand’s Four Seasons resorts are spread across the city, country, jungle, and beach, giving White plenty of settings to play with, if he so chooses.

The following star cast is expected to return for the upcoming season. However, since the actual star cast has yet to be revealed, most of the members listed below may not return. Since the second season featured a primarily new cast, it’s safe to assume there will be plenty of fresh faces on vacation in Asia.

The third installment will see the return of Natasha Rothwell. Viewers will remember her as season one spa manager, Belinda Lindsey, who was scammed by Tanya.
Earlier this year, White reportedly told season one star Connie Britton that her character, Nicole, could return to the show. “He wanted me to be in the second season, and there was an idea that I loved for the character,” Britton told Deadline. “Our intention is to do it in the third season. A piece of casting didn’t work in the second season and we’re hoping to [do] that in the third season. I would love to see a spinoff on every character in that show.”
However, a spokesperson for Britton later revealed to TVLine that “she is not participating in the upcoming season.”
