Netflix has renewed fantasy drama Sweet Tooth for the second season. Here’s what we know so far.

Sweet Tooth is a fantasy drama series based on the DC comic of the same name by Jeff Lemire. The first season premiered on Netflix on June 4, 2021, received garnered positive from the critics. The viewers across the globe loved the show as it remained in Netflix’s top 10 in almost all regions for around a month. Since the first season dropped on Netflix in June 2021, the fans have been waiting for updates on the show’s renewal for the second season. Well, here’s good news. Netflix has renewed ‘Sweet Tooth’ for the second season. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Has Sweet Tooth been renewed for season 2?

Following the super success of the first season, Netflix has now officially renewed ‘Sweet Tooth’ for the second season. Well, it isn’t a big surprise as the fantasy drama fetched 60M views in the first four weeks of its premiere on June 4. This puts ‘Sweet Tooth’ at the number 6 in the list of most-watched English-language original series on Netflix, ahead of Emily in Paris (58 million) and just below The Queen’s Gambit (62 million).

In the United States, Sweet Tooth was in the top 10 for around 30 days. It was number 2 in the world for around two weeks after the premiere. Sweet Tooth Season 1 has an incredible 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.9 score on IMDb.

These numbers were enough to renew the show for another season. The announcement saw numerous members of the cast receive a bar of chocolate with the news. Beside the bar of chocolate they received a note saying:

To a very special fan of a very special show. You’re amongst the very first to hear that Sweet Tooth has been renewed for Season 2.


The official ‘Sweet Tooth’ account shared the video on Twitter showing the cast celebrating the announcement of the second season.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Release Date and Production Details

Like the first season, Season 2 will consist of eight episodes. The filming hasn’t started yet but we know that it will take place in Auckland, New Zealand.

Jim Mickle will return as showrunner for the second season. In a statement, Jim Mickle said:

It’s been equally thrilling and heartwarming to experience how people around the world have been falling in love with our deer-boy. We couldn’t be more excited to continue our collaboration with Netflix and keep following Gus and his friends on their extraordinary journey.

Oanh Ly will join season 2 as a co-executive producer. Co-showrunner and Executive producer Beth Schwartz will not return for the second season as she is busy with the pilot of Peacock’s Red Queen. She is also busy producing projects under her deal at Warner Bros. TV.

Coming to the release date, don’t expect the second season to release before the last quarter of 2022.

Sweet Tooth is set in a post-apocalyptic world when “The Great Crumble” wreaked havoc on the world and led to the mysterious appearance of hybrid babies born part human, part animal. It follows a hybrid deer boy named Gus (Christian Convery) living in the forest home with his sickly and unstable father. When his father dies of sickness, Gus gets alone in a world and almost gets kidnaped by a deadly group of men, until a mysterious loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) rescues him.
