Created by Evan Romansky, the series depicts Mildred Ratched’s life prior to the events portrayed in the movie, but in a different state. Ratched, starring Sarah Paulson, debuted on Netflix on September 18, 2020. The series received a two-season order.

Ratched initially received a two-season order from Netflix
When Netflix first picked up Ratched, the show received a two-season order of a total of 18 episodes. The first season had 8 episodes. So, we can say that it renewed for a second season before the first one even aired.
Has Netflix officially confirmed the second season of Ratched?
According to Netflix, Ratched was the most-viewed series debut of 2020, with 48 million households watching the show within 28 days of its release. The huge popularity and demand of the show meant a second series was inevitable.
It’s been more than two years since Ratched debuted on Netflix, and we haven’t heard anything regarding the show’s status since then. However, Netflix has not formally cancelled the series, but it’s possible it was quietly dumped.
Even star Sarah Paulson doesn’t know if season 2 will ever happen. While talking to Variety in August 2022, Sarah Paulson said she didn’t know if a second season was in the works or not.
Netflix has cancelled several renewed shows post-pandemic. So, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Ratched season 2 gets cancelled.

What will be the plot of the second season?
If the show returns, it will be a cat-and-mouse chase between brother and sister as it was in the season one finale, which concludes with Edmund and Charlotte passing Mildred as they try to escape from her. The second season will also likely put Mildred on the path to becoming the terrifying woman we know her as in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Ratched was designated as a two-season series order for Netflix. When this was announced, Netflix stated, “Ratched scored a two-season, 18-episode straight-to-series order.” According to What’s On Netflix, the series got an extra episode on top of what was originally promised, meaning that the series will have 19 episodes overall. So, if the show returns we will get 11 episodes in the second season.
