One Piece Season 2: Renewal, Release Date Prediction, Story, Everything We Know

One Piece Season 2: Renewal, Netflix Release Date Prediction, Story, Everything We Know

Netflix has confirmed the second season of One Piece live adaptation, and here’s everything we know.

  •  Season 2 of the live-action One Piece adaptation will follow the Arabasta Saga, continuing Monkey D. Luffy’s journey to become King of the Pirates.

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. Since July 1997, it has been serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, and its individual chapters have been collected into 106 tank-bon volumes. Its anime adaptation is one of the most popular animes of all time. The live adaptation of the popular manga and anime debuted on Netflix on August 31, 2023. It received positive reviews from both critics and fans who praised the performances, writing, visual effects, and general fidelity to the source material.

The plot focuses on the exploits of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, who explore the Grand Line in search of the fabled “One Piece” in order to succeed as the next Pirate King.

Given that the first season of One Piece has become one of Netflix’s most-watched series, the news of a second season really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. One Piece Season 1 topped Netflix’s streaming rankings for two weeks after its debut, even surpassing previous high marks for other shows.

However, fans are unaware when it will air, what it will be about, or whether it will be able to keep up with the first season and become a hit or fail miserably. Well, if you are curious to know, here’s everything you need to know.

One Piece Season 2 Renewal Updates

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga, personally announced the renewal to Netflix on September 14, 2023.

In a special video, the creator shares with fans, “It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it. To everyone who’s been a fan of ONE PIECE for years, and to those who experienced ONE PIECE for the first time, thank you so much. Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news. Netflix has decided to renew the show! The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward!”

The confirmation of the second season came in September 2023, two weeks after the show’s premiere on August 31. Netflix renewing One Piece for another season was unsurprising at all as it was the No. 1 title globally on Netflix with 37.8 million views amassed in less than two weeks of its release. The series reached the Top 10 in 93 countries and debuted at No. 1 in 46.

One Piece received incredibly positive reviews with 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and the audience score is even higher at 95 percent.

One Piece Season 2 Release Date Prediction: When will the live adaptation premiere on Netflix?

Season 2 of One Piece has already been written in its entirety, according to the show’s creators, which will significantly speed up the pre-production stage.

In a recent interview with Variety, Tomorrow Studio’s President, Becky Clements, and CEO, Marty Adelstein, shared exciting news following the immensely successful launch of the first season of the live-action adaptation of “One Piece” on Netflix. They disclosed that development has already commenced for the upcoming season, and there’s even a potential release timeframe. It’s worth noting that Tomorrow Studio is one of the three production companies collaborating on the Netflix live-action “One Piece,” with both Clements and Adelstein serving as producers.

Adelstein stated that the scripts for the second season of “One Piece” are ready, while Clements hinted at a prospective release window of 12 to 18 months for Season 2. If this schedule holds, fans can anticipate the arrival of “One Piece” Season 2 between September 2024 and March 2025.

However, there is some bad news. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA’s unprecedented simultaneous strike is still going on as of this writing, and the AMPTP is still unwilling to pay their writers and actors their fair share. Therefore, One Piece Season 2 filming and production cannot start until at least the SAG-AFTRA strike is over.

Live-Action One Piece Season 2 Plot

The One Piece anime collection has over 1,000 episodes under its belt and is brimming with plots for the live-action to use. One Piece season one’s post-credit scene offers viewers a possible preview of what might occur in season 2. Before the credits begin to roll, the show switches to a mysterious and ominous scene where a hazy haze emerges—Smoker, as he is known to fans of the anime.

The second season of Netflix’s “One Piece” is poised to closely mirror the narrative of the original Manga series. Following the initial season’s adaptation of the East Blue Saga, it delved into certain segments of the Loguetown Arc.

It appears that the second season will likely conclude the Loguetown Arc and then venture into the Arabasta Saga, which is the subsequent saga in the Manga, following the East Blue Saga. As the Loguetown Arc wraps up, the Straw Hat crew will find themselves in a showdown with Captain Smoker, an event hinted at in the Season 1 finale. Additionally, they’ll have to contend with adversaries eager to claim their bounties. This season also marks the introduction of the enigmatic Monkey D. Dragon.

When it comes to the Arabasta Saga, encompassing 117 chapters, it remains uncertain how much of this storyline will be incorporated in the second season. The East Blue Saga, spanning 100 chapters, has nearly reached its conclusion.

Notable highlights that the Straw Hat crew may encounter during their adventures include their ship being devoured by a colossal whale, the arrival of Mr. 9 and Ms. Wednesday, both associated with Baroque Works, a mysterious island populated by prehistoric creatures and the eventual revelation of the malevolent leader of Baroque Works, Crocodile, entangled in a massive civil war within the Arabasta region.

Live-Action One Piece Season 2 Cast

The Season 2 cast will mostly bring back characters from the first season in the main roles. The Straw Hat Pirates will be back, so that means the return of the following characters:

  • Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
  • Emily Rudd as Nami
  • Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro
  • Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
  • Taz Skylar as Sanji

Furthermore, in the upcoming season 2, viewers can anticipate the return of familiar faces, including Vincent Regan in the role of Garp, Morgan Davies portraying Koby, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Armand Aucamp taking on the character of Bogard, Jeff Ward reprising the role of Buggy, and Ilia Isorelýs Paulino returning as Alvida.

Additionally, the upcoming season of the live-action “One Piece” adaptation is set to introduce a host of new characters. As of now, there have been no official casting announcements for these new characters in the Season 2 ensemble. Notably, three Straw Hat Pirates, namely Chopper, Nico Robin, and Jinbe, are expected to join the crew during this season.

Is there any trailer?

Currently, there is no trailer for the second season. However, you can watch the first season’s trailer here:

How many episodes will be in One Piece season 2?

We would assume the second season would consist of at least eight episodes like the first season. However, the grand success of the first season might prompt Netflix to increase the number of episodes.

The first season of the live-action series barely scratched the surface of the first season of the anime show, which had a whopping 61 episodes. Netflix might aim to compensate for this by extending the second season, potentially rounding it out to an even 10 episodes, especially given the resounding success of the first season. There’s undoubtedly an abundance of source material to draw from for such an expansion.

Where to watch One Piece?

Given how immensely popular Season 1 of One Piece was, it is clear why Netflix will continue to host the popular show. So, Live Action One Piece Season 2 will also stream on Netflix like the first season.
