1. Chennai Express
Rohit Shetty wanted to cast Katrina in his South India-based romantic comedy Chennai Express but she was not too excited about the script. Finally, Deepika got the role and delivered one of the best performances of her career. The movie turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office.
2. Gunday
Katrina was even offered the role played by Priyanka Chopra in Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh’s Gunday. Ali Abbas Zafar had worked with Katrina Kaif in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011) and wanted to cast her as Inspector Nandita Sengupta in the film, however, the actress couldn’t commit to the film due to her bust schedule.
3. Ram-Leela
It is quite surprising to know that Deepika Padukone was not the first choice of Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Ram Leela. Katrina opted out of the film as she felt that Ranveer Singh was just too young for her. The romantic action drama earned more than Rs 200 crore at the box office.
4. Singham
Before signing Kajal Aggarwal for his movie Singham, Rohit Shetty approached Katrina Kaif with the script but she sent the script back to him.
5. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Ayan Mukerji, known for his strong friendship with Ranbir Kapoor, had expressed interest in casting Katrina Kaif for the character of Naina in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Regrettably, Katrina declined the offer to work with her Jagga Jasoos co-star due to prior work commitments.
6. Bajirao Mastani
Ram-Leela, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Chennai Express were not the sole films that Katrina Kaif declined and were subsequently taken on by Deepika Padukone. According to reports, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali had initially reached out to Katrina Kaif, Rani Mukerji, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan before ultimately casting Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra as the lead actresses for his magnum opus Bajirao Mastani.
7. Barfi!
Ileana D’Cruz made her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s Barfi but little did we know that she was not the first choice for the movie, the role was initially offered to Katrina. The actress turned down the opportunity for reasons undisclosed.
8. Half Girlfriend
The romantic drama ‘Half Girlfriend,’ directed by Mohit Suri, is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name. Mohit offered the lead role to Katrina Kaif. However, she declined the opportunity, citing a lack of confidence in portraying a college student on the silver screen.
