The first Joker film, a dark take on the origin story of legendary Batman villain the Joker, received 11 Oscar nominations, winning Best Original Score and Best Actor. Also, it became the first R-rated movie to earn over $1 billion at the box office globally.
And now the villain is back, bringing us a brand-new installment, Joker: Folie à Deux. This American musical thriller movie is intended to be a follow-up to Joker, which came out in 2019. Joaquin Phoenix is back in the role of the Joker from DC Comics, while Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn.

Whhe will Joker: Folie à Deux Release?
Joker: Folie à Deux, also known as Joker 2, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 4, 2024, assuming no delays, according to Warner Bros. Filming for the sequel began in December 2022, and to celebrate the event, Phillips released the first image of Phoenix returning to his role.
In December 2023, director Todd Phillips dropped brand new photos of Joker: Folie à Deux featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. In the first photo, Phoenix’s Joker is jailed, while the second photo has Gaga’s Harley Quinn gazing at the Joker.

Unlike the first installment, which was primarily a psychological thriller and drama film, Joker: Folie à Deux is unexpectedly a musical. Apparently, a few of the complex musical pieces in the film caused it to stay in production for a little longer than it should have. But don’t worry, it will be released in theaters without further delay.
What will be the plot of Joker 2?
Apart from what we can infer from the title, no specific plot details have been revealed thus far. We do, however, know that the film will be a musical. In the movie Joker’s last scene, Arthur was imprisoned at Arkham State Hospital, most likely for arrest following the police’s dispersal of the riots that had broken out throughout Gotham City.
In the film’s last scene, he can be seen dancing through the hospital hallway and leaving red footprints behind him. However, it’s unclear if Joker: Folie à Deux takes place minutes or years after Joker’s last scene. In any case, a large portion of the sequel is reportedly set in Arkham.

Considering that the first film concludes with Arthur fleeing from Arkham Asylum guards after he kills a doctor, it is evident from certain Joker: Folie à Deux plot points that Arthur was unable to escape. While we have some time to interpret or wait for more information, it is best to go watch the film in theaters to witness the masterpiece encore.
