Extraction 2: One of Netflix’s most popular movies to date, Extraction, is returning with a sequel.

Extraction is a popular 2020 American action thriller movie created by Sam Hargrave and directed by Joe Russo. Based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman, Extraction premiered on Netflix on April 24, 2020. In the movie, an Australian black operations mercenary is betrayed while on a mission to rescue an Indian drug lord’s kidnapped son in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Extraction opened to mixed reviews but the viewers loved it for its actors’ performances and action sequences. It became the most-watched original film in Netflix’s history with a reported 99 million households in its first four weeks. With such an incredible response, it hasn’t come as a surprise when Netflix announced a sequel.

Extraction 2 Development Timeline & Production Status
In May 2020, Joe Russo had been hired to write a sequel to Extraction. In December 2020, the Russo Brothers announced that beyond the sequel they are to develop a series of movies set within the world of Extraction.
Filming for the sequel was scheduled to begin in Sydney, Australia in September 2021. However, the makers were forced to move production to Prague owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On November 29, 2021, director Hargrave announced on his Instagram account that principal photography had begun in Prague, Czech Republic. Hemsworth started filming for his portion in December 2021. Filming officially wrapped on April 6, 2022, as per praguereporter.com.
Extraction 2 Release Date on Netflix
Despite the fact that filming wrapped in April of this year, the movie has been in post-production for several months. However, much to the fans’ disappointment, we heard during TUDUM 2022 that the film will not be released until 2023.
Although no specific release date has been announced, we anticipate Extraction 2 to arrive on Netflix in the first quarter of 2023. So, fans, don’t be disappointed, as the fruit of your patience will be quite sweet.
Extraction 2 Plot
Tyler Rake was in a real pickle at the end of Extraction, but the fact that a sequel is on the way indicates he survived and will fight another day. However, we need to learn more about what he might get up to in Extraction 2.
The official synopsis goes like:
“After surviving a massive battle in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tyler Rake returns with serious wounds from the mission. He will be accompanied by his team, ready to take on the next mission. Tyler has been tasked with extracting the family, who is also at the mercy of a Georgian mobster. It appears that in order to protect them, Tyler has to penetrate one of the world’s most dangerous prisons. While the extraction is heating up and the gangster is being hunted down in Sydney, Rake and his squad has been hunting them down to exact revenge.”
Writer Joe Russo stated that the team did not want to make the same film twice. Therefore the sequel should have a somewhat different tone and pace. Well, it will be interesting to see how distinct will it be.
Extraction 2 Cast
When Netflix announced the sequel, it was confirmed that Chris Hemsworth would be returning to reprise his role as Tyler Rake. It is also confirmed that actor Adam Bessa will be returning to reprise his role as Yaz. Actress Rayna Campbell who starred in Extraction as a radio tech of Nik’s crew has a big role in the sequel and her character name is Ruthie.
Georgian model and actress Tinatin Dalakishivili has joined the cast as Ketevan. Patrick Newall has an unnamed mercenary role in Extraction. He will now play the role of Seb in the sequel. Dato Bakhtadze will play the role of Avtandil. You can check the full star cast on IMDb.

Where to watch Extraction 2?
Like Extraction, its sequel Extraction will be Netflix exclusive. It will be released exclusively on Netflix across the world. We may see a limited release in theatres before it arrives on Netflix, however, nothing is confirmed yet.
