Extraction 2 is reportedly already in the works. It could reunite Chris Hemsworth with this former Avenger.
Netflix’s original action movie Extraction released on 24 April and garnered positive reviews from critics. The hardcore action movie received a huge response from fans. Extraction showcases Chris Hemsworth as a mercenary Tyler Rake recruited for a dangerous mission to rescue the son of India’s biggest drug lord from Bangladesh’s biggest drug lord. While the fans are still enjoying Extraction on Netflix, Extraction 2 is reportedly already in the works.
The ending of Extraction is deliberately left ambiguous. We see Tyler fall off the bridge and into the river after being shot in the neck. In the final scene, we see someone watching Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal). Was it Tyler or just an illusion of Ovi’s imagination? The ending has made a way for a sequel. Will there be Extraction 2? Here’s what we know so far.
Extraction 2 Hasn’t Been Announced
There’s been no official announcement of Extraction 2 being in development. Netflix is not known to produce sequels to its original movies. The streaming giant is known for producing multiple seasons of its original shows. In the last five years, Netflix had sequels to only two of its original movies.
Having said that, director Sam Hargrave is keen to move the franchise forward. Hargrave tells Digital Spy that there have been discussions of a possible follow-up to Extraction depending on how viewers respond:
“We’re all going to wait to see how fans react to the film. And based on that, there have been discussions of different storylines that could take place in different times – both forward in time and backwards in time… We’re just waiting to see what happens, and to see how the appetite is for these characters and for this film. And then we’ll make our decision. But there definitely have been discussions of broadening this world, for sure.”

Extraction 2 story
If Extraction 2 goes in development, it won’t necessarily be the direct sequel to the first part. It could move forward with Tyler Rake on a new deadly and dangerous mission. The sequel could even be set in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, where the original graphic novel took place. Extraction 2 could also go in another direction with a time jump that stars Ovi as the main protagonist of the story.
A report in wegotthiscovered.com suggests that rumours are rife that Chris Evans is in talks for a role in the seuquel. The Russo brothers and Netflix want the Captain America star in the sequel as another agent that works together with Hemsworth’s Rake. If they can’t get Evans, they’ll likely go for another MCU star, Chris Pratt. Well, these are just rumours and nothing is official as of now.
Extraction 2 release date
If Extraction 2 goes into development, expect it to take a couple of years to arrive. If Hemsworth returns as the main lead then he needs to fit his dates around his filming commitments for Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Being an action movie, Extraction 2 requires a huge budget. Its pre-production, filming, VFX and post-production will take a lot of years. Don’t expect Extraction 2 to arrive before 2023.
