Cars 4: Potential Release Date, Latest Updates and Streaming Details

Pixar is reportedly working on Cars 4 along with other spinoff projects related to the franchise.

Disney doesn’t make many cartoon movie series, but for some reason, it keeps returning to the story of Lightning McQueen. Cars is a 2006 American animated sports comedy film, produced by Pixar. Disney released the Cars film series, which is one of the studio’s most popular creations.

The story revolves around talking race car Lightning McQueen, who gets lost in a desert town on his way to a race and must perform community service before he can leave. It currently consists of three films, with Cars 3 having been released in theaters approximately six years ago.

Since then, fans have been waiting a long time for the fourth version, which is, and up until now, there have been no announcements regarding the release of Cars 4. But Cars creative director Jay Ward recently hinted at the likelihood of a fourth film, which has once again captured the interest of fans.

So, is the release of Cars 4 imminent or is it just a rumor? And if it is, what will it be about? If you are as curious as we are about the Cars series, you have come to the right place. Here’s everything you should know!

When is Cars 4 Release Date?

We are not aware of whether Cars 4 is currently being directed or produced, and as of right now, no official confirmation about the movie has been made. Before Cars 3 came out in 2017, the movie’s director said he didn’t know the future of the franchise.

But some people heard the creators mention that a fourth season will happen if they get a good story during that sequel’s dispatch meeting. So we never know.

Recently, Jay Ward, creative director of the Cars franchise at Pixar Animation Studios, hinted at the development of Cars 4. Speaking at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion 7 via The Lake Brake Show on YouTube, Ward announced that several Cars projects are in the works. However, he didn’t confirm the details of these projects.

Coming to the potential release date for Cars 4, Disney reserved March 6, 2026, and June 19, 2026, for theatrical Pixar feature films. Since the previous three Cars movies were released in June, we believe that June 19, 2026, is booked for Cars 4. However, there is no official word.

Cars 4 Plot

The plot of Cars 4 remains under stones, but it will most likely revolve around Cruz Ramirez. The third film was billed as the third act of McQueen’s career, with the ending implying that Cruz would become the new racer and Lightning would serve as a mentor. Moreover, there have been rumors that Cars 4 might follow a very different path than its predecessors, possibly focusing on a thriller angle.

This concept was put forth by Owen Wilson himself back in 2017, and it adds a fascinating element to the franchise. There’s something very alluring about the possibility of a darker, gritty plot with bigger stakes. However, it remains to be seen whether Pixar and Disney will accept this risk.
