Andor Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot & More!

Andor Season 2 Release: The American sci-fi action-adventure series is coming back with another season in 2024.

  • The first season of Andor premiered on Disney+ on September 21, 2022, and concluded its twelve episodes run on Nov 12, 2022.
  • The production of Andor Season 2 is currently on halt due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Andor is an American science-fiction action-adventure limited series created by Tony Gilroy for the streaming service Disney+. The series is also known as Star Wars: Andor.  It is the fourth live-action series in the Star Wars franchise and serves as a prequel to both the spin-off movie Rogue One (2016)  and the original Star Wars movie (1977). The series traces the journey of Cassian Andor, a former thief who transforms into a Rebel spy, throughout the five years leading up to the events depicted in the two aforementioned films.

The first season of Andor premiered on Disney+ on September 21, 2022, and concluded its twelve-episode run on Nov 23, 2023. The show received praise as one of the best in the franchise, and luckily for fans there will be a second season. Although not many details about the show have been revealed, we do have enough to quell your excitement. In order to know, continue reading.

When is Andor Season 2 Release Date?

The show was quickly greenlit for another 12-episode-long season, even before the first episodes dropped on Disney+. According to a report from Deadline, the Andor team was well into filming Season Two before production was forced to shut down due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The filming for the second season was just weeks away from wrapping in the UK.

Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy previously revealed that Andor season 2 is expected to be released in August 2024.

Discussing the upcoming season at Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London, he explained: “We started shooting in November. We’re about halfway. We’re gonna shoot through August. We’re on exact schedule. [We’ll] finish in August, spend another year on post. I suppose we’ll come out the following August.”

With production forced to shut down due to SAG-AFTRA in July, it means Andor was just a month away from wrapping filming if they remained on schedule.

It is expected that the filming will resume by late this year or early next week. So, it is possible that Season 2’s release could be pushed back by a few months. We are expecting the second season of Andor to premiere in late 2024.

Andor Season 2 Plot

Cassian was able to free her from the Empire in the season 1 finale, but his old friend had been put through the wringer by her captors. Box appears extremely serious during this encounter with the Rebel, though we are unsure if she has fully recovered by the time it occurs. Therefore, we know that the Andor season 2 plot will directly lead to Cassian joining the Rebellion to recover the Death Star’s blueprints.

So, the upcoming 12 episodes will depict Cassian’s life as a Rebel prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While the first batch of episodes covers a relatively brief period of time, Season 2 will have plenty of questions to answer.

In an interview with Rolling Stone showrunner Tony Gilroy said things will be “very different” when the show returns for the next outing.

“The first year is really about him becoming, and the last line of this tranche of 12 episodes will sum up where we’ve been trying to get to. And we come back a year later. It’ll be very different,” he said.

“The next four years [of story] are not about becoming a revolutionary. They’re about learning to be a leader and how difficult it is to put the alliance together and what happens to people who are the original gangsters versus the establishment and a lot of different other issues.”

Andor Season 2 Cast

Similar to the whole Star Wars franchise, Andor also has a massive cast. However, we anticipate seeing the majority of the following characters return for the second and final season. Here’s the list; check it out.
