Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya is out in the theatres now. The movie features Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher and it is based on the epic romance of Mirza-Sahiba. Let’s read how the critics and audience have rated and reviewed this romantic saga.
Mirzya Critics Reviews and Ratings
Mirzya Review by Shubhra Gupta from Indian Express: Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher’s film is a beautiful, lush production but what it lacks is that crucial element between the two which makes romance come alive. In terms of acting potential, neither newcomer lifts off the screen, but Kapoor fares a little better than his affectless leading lady: he appear to have a quiet spark which may surface after some more polishing.

Mirzya Review by Saibal Chatterjee from NDTV: In Mirzya, Shakespearean chorus meets Bollywood song in a fanciful but disappointingly ineffectual way. Such a waste! For a story of young and defiant love, Mirzya is too passionless to exercise a sustained hold on the audience.

Mirzya Review by Rohit Vats from Hindustan Times: Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra creates a surreal world here. He experiments with his time warp film. He is confident about his storytelling technique. And he is willing to add more drama. Like a stage play. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s songs are what he needs. The lead actors’ performances are his prime savior, so giving them lesser dialogues appears like a wise decision.

Mirzya Review by Surabhi Redkar from Koimoi: Mirzya is a film for a niche audience. People who enjoy poetry in motion, this film is exactly that. For those who prefer frothy love stories, this intense affair may bore you out. As a piece of content, Mirzya has little to offer. It is poetic but fails to connect with the viewers at many levels. The stunning visuals and horse riding long shots are excellent. Editing too is top notch.

Mirzya Review by Raja Sen from Rediff: The story is paper-thin, and the reason we can’t say much about the debut actors – save for Saiyami’s striking presence – is that they are given bewilderingly little to do. Gulzar’s lyrics may be poetic and the songs by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy individually intriguing, but Mehra throws them in our face.

Mirzya Review by Manjusha Radhakrishnan from Gulf News: While Anil Kapoor’s son displays sparks of brilliance and emotes effectively with his eyes, it’s Kher, Shabana Azmi and Tanvi Azmi’s niece, who shines in the film. She’s a pleasure to watch and brings out the pathos of loving somebody beneath her station. She has a star quality that makes you invested in her. Watch Mirzya if you have a penchant for folk tales, poetry and mysticism.
