April 2023 had many mega-budget movies like Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Ponniyin Selvan 2 hit the big screens. However, this month is going to be different. May 2023 doesn’t have big-budget releases. This month will see the release of several small-budget and content-driven movies. From the spy action movie IB 71 to the rom-com Jogira Sara Ra Ra, here’s the list of new Hindi movies releasing in May 2023.
1. Afwaah
Release Date: May 5, 2023
Afwaah is a mystery thriller movie written and directed by Sudhir Mishra. It features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhumi Pednekar, Sharib Hashmi and Sumeet Vyas. The movie focuses on the rumour-fuelled political warfare where facts are manipulated for personal and political gains.
2. The Kerala Story
Release Date: May 5, 2023
Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani, The Kerala Story follows the story of a group of women from Kerala who converted to Islam and joined the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The hard-hitting drama has courted controversy for falsely claiming that thousands of women from Kerala were being converted to Islam and recruited into ISIS.
3. IB71
Release Date: May 12, 2023
IB71 is a spy action thriller featuring Vidyut Jammwal and Anupam Kher in lead roles. Vidyut plays an Air Force officer, who plans to block the airspace to prevent an attack on India by Pakistan and China.
4. Jogira Sara Ra Ra
Release Date: May 12, 2023
Jogira Sara Ra Ra is a rom-com featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Neha Sharma in the lead roles. Directed by Kushan Nandy, the movie also stars Sanjay Mishra and Mahaakshay Chakraborty in supporting roles.
5. Music School
Release Date: May 12, 2023
Music School is an Indian musical movie starring Sharman Joshi, Shriya Saran and Prakash Raj in the lead roles. It is about the pressure applied by school systems and parents on children to continue with endless hours of studies, only studies.. thinking of making them doctors and engineers, thereby leaving no time for art and leisure activities for them.
6. Chatrapathi
Release Date: May 12, 2023
Chatrapathi is an Indian Hindi-language action movie directed by V. V. Vinayak. It is a remake of the 2005 Telugu film of the same name starring Prabhas and Shriya Saran. The movie stars Bellamkonda Sreenivas in his Hindi film debut playing the titular role alongside Nushrat Bharucha.
7. Kathal
Release Date: May 19, 2023 (Netflix)
Kathal is a social comedy-drama movie written by Ashok Mishra and directed by Yashowardhan Mishra. The movie features Sanya Malhotra, Anant V Joshi, Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, Brijendra Kala and Neha Saraf in lead roles.
8. Aazam
Release Date: May 19, 2023
Aazam is a crime thriller that revolves around the underworld gang that controls the syndicate in the city. Aazam is about the succession battle of the mafia don Nawab Khan which revolves around conspiracy, betrayal and deceit. Its stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Abhimanyu Singh, Indraneil Sengupta and Raza Murad.
9. Coat
Release Date: May 26, 2023
Coat is a family drama film starring Sanjay Mishra and Vivaan Shah. It is a story about a boy from a small village who has big dreams.
10. Swatantra Veer Savarkar
Release Date: May 26, 2023
The life journey of Indian freedom fighter and reformer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar. The movie stars Randeep Hooda and Ankita Lokhande.
