About The Kerala Story
Produced by Vipul Shah, ‘The Kerala Story’ depicts how women from Kerala were forced to convert and recruited by the terror group Islamic State (IS). The movie portrays how Shalini Unnikrishnan was transformed into Fatima and how she was propagandized through brainwashing into the terrorist organization ISIS.
Marketed as a true story, the film is premised on the Hindutva conspiracy theory of “love jihad”, and falsely claims that thousands of Hindu women from Kerala have been converted to Islam and recruited by ISIS.
Banned in a few states
The Kerala Story sparked numerous political debates and was initially banned by the West Bengal government on May 8 due to concerns over potential tensions among communities. However, on May 18, 2023, the Supreme Court intervened and stayed the ban.
