Sex Education Season 4 Release Date

On September 25, 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a fourth season. This wonderful news was revealed at Netflix’s TUDUM event.

Although an official release date for Season 4 of Sex Education has not been announced by Netflix, it has been confirmed by the streaming service that the highly anticipated season will be available in the fall of 2023. The announcement was made on May 17, 2023.

So far, Virgin RiverLove is Blind, and Top Boy are confirmed to return for their next season in September 2023. So, it seems that the month of September is already packed. For now, the only show confirmed to return in October is Lupin Season 3.

So, we’re expecting Sex Education season 4 to premiere in October 2023. We’ll let you know more about the release date when Netflix announces it.

Sex Education Season 4 Plot and Synopsis

Following the dramatic events of the previous season, Season 4 of “Sex Education” will pick up the story with Otis and his peers entering their final year of high school. As they confront the pressures of impending adulthood, they also face new relationship dynamics, conflicts, and the consequences of their actions.

The season will continue to explore a wide range of themes, including consent, mental health, LGBTQ+ experiences, and societal expectations. With its signature blend of humour and sensitivity, the show encourages open conversations around these topics. Fostering a greater understanding and empathy among its viewers.

Here is the full synopsis for Sex Education season 4 below:

“Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier — their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, while Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students — they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level. There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being … kind?! Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal. Aimee tries something new by taking an Art A Level and Adam grapples with whether mainstream education is for him. Over in the U.S., Maeve is living her dream at prestigious Wallace University, being taught by cult author Thomas Molloy. Otis is pining after her, while adjusting to not being an only child at home, or the only therapist on campus.”

Sex Education Season 4 Cast

We will see big changes in the cast as several prominent members are not returning for the fourth season. Simone Ashley will not return for season 4. She played Olivia on the series and announced that she would not be returning during a visit to ITV’s This Morning.

Patricia Allison revealed she would also be leaving the series after three seasons. Allison played Otis’ friend Ola for three seasons. Tanya Reynolds, who plays Lily, will not be returning for this season, which makes sense since Ola is also leaving.

Asa Butterfield, Aimee Lou Wood, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Gillian Anderson, and other Sex Education stars will be back for season 4. On Feb 15, 2023, Ncuti Gatwa announced the fourth season will be his last season.

Asa Butterfield has confirmed his return to the show as Otis. Gillian Anderson is also back as Otis’ sex therapist mother, Jean, along with series regulars Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Connor Swindells (Adam), Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson), Dua Saleh (Cal), Mimi Keene (Ruby), Chinenye Ezeudu (Viv), and George Robinson (Isaac). Alistair Petrie and Samantha Spiro are also back as Adam’s parents, Michael and Maureen.

Season 4 will also feature several additional cast members, including Connor Swindells (Adam Groff), and Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee Gibbs). Also, Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson Marchetti), Dua Saleh (Cal), Mimi Keene (Ruby), and Chinenye Ezeudu (Viv). George Robinson (Isaac), Alistair Petrie (Michael), and Samantha Spiro (Maureen).

Variety reported that Jodie Turner-Smith has also joined the cast of Sex Education season 4 after Gatwa personally invited her to be part of the season.

Is there any trailer?

Following the pattern of previous seasons, Sex Education Season 3 premiered in September 2021. Netflix unveiled the first full-length trailer just two weeks prior to its release on the streaming platform. Assuming that Season 4 maintains a similar timeline, it suggests that there is a significant waiting period ahead before we can catch a glimpse of the forthcoming season.

Will there be Sex Education Season 5?

Netflix has not officially stated that Sex Education Season 4 will be the last season, but it certainly seems that way. Over time, the show has been saying goodbye to many cast members, including Emma Mackey, who confirmed that Season 4 will be her final appearance. Ncuti Gatwa is also departing the series after Season 4.

It’s hard to imagine the series without those two characters. Well, we need to just have to wait until Sex Education season 4 comes out until we get more idea about the future of the show.

Where to watch Sex Education?

Season 4 will be released exclusively on Netflix, as were the previous three seasons.

So get ready to laugh, cry, and empathize with the students of Moordale Secondary School as they navigate the complexities of growing up in a world that constantly challenges their understanding of love, consent, and personal identity.
