Moghuls
The show is a screen adaptation of Alex Rutherford’s six-volume historical fiction novel, Empire of the Moghul, which starts with Babur and ends with the reign of Aurangzeb. Bhavani Iyer is writing the screenplay, and Kausar Munir has penned the dialogues. While Ronit Roy plays Babur, Shabana Azmi will essay the role of his grandmother, Esan Daulat, and Dia Mirza will feature as his sister, Khanzada.
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, the showrunner, Nikhil Advani said, “I have always been fascinated by the Moghul era, its politics and the lives of the emperors, so when the channel came to me with the adaptation rights to the book, I was happy to come on board. The first season will revolve around Babur, his obsession with the city of Samarkand and his rule in Kabul before he came to Hindustan.” The show will premiere later this year.
Room 104: Season 4
The series is an anthology which is set in a single room of an American hotel, exploring characters who pass through it in each episode. Each episode is a different genre from horror and thriller to comedy. The show has been critically acclaimed and has received a positive response from the audience for its fresh storytelling and engaging plotlines. Season 4 is all set to premiere on 25th July.
The November Story
The show revolves around a father-daughter relationship and features Tamannaah as a daughter trying to salvage the reputation of her criminal father essayed by GM Kumar. It marks the debut of Tammanah in the digital/OTT space. In an interview with The New Indian Express, she said, “The OTT platform is also the new playground for accomplished actors like myself looking to break grounds with more challenging roles outside the two-hour cinematic time frame. These are exciting and experimental times in the entertainment industry.” The female-oriented web series is directed by debutant Ram Subramanian and produced by Ananda Vikatan Group. It will premiere later this year.
Lovecraft Country
The show follows Atticus Black, who along with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. It portrays how Atticus and co. survive and overcome both the racist terrors of White America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback. The show is a social commentary on the racism which is prevalent across the US and seamlessly integrates the elements of horror and mystery into the narrative. It is all set to premiere on 17th August.
Undoing
The show follows Grace Fraser, a successful therapist, whose perfect life with her husband and son is shattered when violent death is revealed to be the consequence of her husband’s actions. The Undoing’ is one of the buzziest shows to make its way to the streaming domain this summer. It is a psychological drama, adapted from the book ‘You Should Have Known’, by Jean Hanff Korelitz.
It is a creation of Emmy-winning Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley, while Emmy, Oscar and Golden Globe-winning director Susanne Bier is helming the project. The Undoing brings together an eclectic cast of Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, Edgar Ramirez, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Matilda De Angelis, Lily Rabe, Noma Dumezweni and Donald Sutherland. It will premiere later this year.
