Alaska Daily Season 2: Everything We Know So Far!

Alaska Daily Season 2: The popular American drama television series might return with another season. Here’s everything you need to know!

  • Alaska Daily premiered on October 6, 2022, and concluded its first season run on March 30, 2023.
  • The network has not yet announced the second season.

No one wants drama in their life, but we sure do enjoy it on television. Dramatic storytelling has always been the crux of prestige TV and the setting for some of the greatest shows in history, from vintage television to the giants of the new Golden Age and the newest streaming staples.

Alaska Daily is a drama series created by Tom McCarthy for ABC. The story revolves around Eileen, a journalist from New York who relocates to Anchorage to start over and searches for personal and professional atonement after joining a daily metro newspaper there.

The show premiered on October 6, 2022. And now that the season finale of ABC’s Alaska Daily left them with a cliffhanger to think about for a few months, fans are clamouring for more episodes. Will the show return for the second season? Here’s everything you need to know.

Will there be Alaska Daily Season 2?

The Season 1 finale aired on March 30, 2023, without confirmation of whether or not more episodes are on the way. As on April 16, 2023, there is no official news on whether Swank’s show will return for a new season.

The renewal of any show depends on factors like viewership on TV and on streaming platforms.

For the Season 1 finale on March 30, TVLine reports that Alaska Daily scored a Live+Same day rating of 0.2 and audience of 2.8 million viewers in the 18-49 age demographic. This marks the seventh straight week of an 0.2 rating for the show in Live+Same, and the drama averaged a 0.4 rating and 5.4 million viewers in Live+7 (a.k.a. the number of people who watched within seven days of the initial broadcast).

Though Live+Same ratings aren’t quite significant in the era of streaming services and delayed viewing, the numbers are still important to gauge how well the series sustained with its audience. The average ratings for Alaska Daily over its first season are not bad. Maintaining the same rating for seven episodes in a row shows the holding onto the audience that it found.

A few days before the finale aired, Deadline released a status report on the renewals and cancellations of ABC shows. The website reported that though Alaska Daily has internal support, a second season isn’t feasible due to below-expected viewership numbers.

ABC hasn’t announced renewals yet. Grey’s Anatomy and Abbott Elementary are the only two scripted series that have been renewed.

Alaska Daily not getting renewal even after two weeks of its first season conclusion doesn’t feel like a good sign. Moreover, the ratings aren’t substantial enough to guarantee a second season. So, it remains to be seen if Hilary Swank will be back on ABC.

What will be the plot of Alaska Daily Season 2?

It’s obviously too early to make story predictions, and the show’s makers haven’t provided any information about the second season of “Alaska Daily.” Since the season finale episode might be the final time we see this show on television, any plot details making the rounds on social media are pure conjecture.

However, for your consideration the second season, should it be renewed, will surely continue where the first left off, with the closing episode, “Most Reckless Thing I’ve Ever Done,” showing that there were rumours of a new Alaskan newspaper circulating. Eileen and Roz listen to Gloria’s final call and locate their lead before an innocent man is put away while the team looks into its rivals and what it means for the future of local reporting.
