It’s been 9 years of Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the industry. Deepika had a dream debut by starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om, and Ranbir and Sonam debuted in Sajay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariyaa. Both the films released on November 9, 2007 on diwali that year. Let’s take look on the journey so far of these 3 stars.
She’s already the favorite actress at the moment of many. It’s not just the men who are crushing on her but even the girls, who look look up to her and consider her as a role model. Today undoubtedly Deepika is the number one actress in Bollywood. But all this has come only after years of striving, hard work and her faith in herself and her work.
Though Deepika couldn’t have had a better debut, after all it was Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan by her side, her following movies just didn’t do well. Her second movie opposite her ex beau Ranbir Kapoor had a pretty good response but then came a series of flops. With movies like Chandni Chowk to China, Lafangey Parindey, Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se, Break ke Baad, Karthik calling Karthik and Desi Boyz, Deepika just wasn’t able to make a mark for herself in Bollywood. That was the time where she was just written off and nobody considered her acting chops too seriously.
Then in 2012 came Cocktail which Deepika herself considers as the turning point in her career. I remember telling my friend that Deepika’s acting was really good in the movie. And my friend gave me an expression like ‘Deepika? And acting?’ Somehow those two words just weren’t used together. And then Deepika did something very dramatic the very next year. Deepika got the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 2013.
The year 2013 had Deepika in four movies Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Ram Leela and all four went on to become big hits. And by the end of that year it was just Deepika Deepika in everyone’s mind. She got the Best Actress Award for Ram Leela and became the face of many brand endorsements following that. That success has been continuing even now in 2016 and we hope it continues for very long. Last year too she received the Best Actress Award in 2015 for Piku. A lot has been talked about her Hollywood movie with Vin Diesel and will hit the screens in Jan 2017.
Deepika seems to have had a roller coaster ride in these 9 years. And it is her discipline, talent and being true to her roots that has made Deepika reach where she is today.
Ranbir Kapoor became an instant favorite of everyone. He also got the Best Debut Award for Saawariyaa. Soon Ranbir became known for the great choices he made for films. He proved his versatility and acting talent with the kind of movies he was doing. All his movies initially were a hit and people largely appreciated Ranbir in each of his films. He has done some superhit movies like Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahaani, Rockstar, Rajneeti, Barfi! and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
He won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Rockstar and Barfi! and was considered one of the best youngest actors in the industry. But things are not always rosy. There are ups and downs in everyone’s life. While 2013 saw the rise of Deepika Padukone, it also saw the down fall of Ranbir Kapoor. Ranbir did Besharam in 2013 which received a lot of backlash from the audiences. And that again has been continuing till now in 2016. Ranbir did not have any release in 2014 and in 2015 he did Roy, Bombay Velvet and Tamasha. All of these were not very well received, though Tamasha ranked better.
This year Ranbir’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is running in cinemas now and has been received well at the box office. It has mixed reviews from the audiences and critics. We just hope that Ranbir’s films start doing well and he once again reaches that position of being on top. His next movie Jagga Jasoos will release in 2017.
She is known for her innate fashion sense and thanks to her, today we know the names of a lot of international fashion designers! She is also known for a lot of her foot-in-mouth situations. But we love her for being honest and straight to the point.
Sonam too started with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariyaa opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Sonam did movies like Aisha, Delhi 6, I Hate Luv Storys and Mausam, all of which were appreciated. Her movies Thank You, Players and Bewakoofiyaan didn’t do well and were considered flops. She too had a good year in 2013. Her movies Raanjhanaa and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag were the top movies that year.
Her work was appreaciated in Dolly ki Doli and Khoobsurat. In 2015 she starred in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo opposite Salman Khan. Sonam gives all the credits for those Box Office numbers of this movie to Salman. Though a lot of her movies have been hits, Sonam was never really known for her acting until Neerja happened. 2016 had the release of Neerja and suddenly Sonam had become the talk of the town with everyone just talking about her fascinating work in the film.
Sonam will next be seen in Veere di Wedding. We just wish her all the best and hope she keeps entertaining us with her films and her fashionable wardrobe.
