Ponniyin Selvan 1 Advance Booking Report & Opening Day Collection in Tamil Nadu

The Mani Ratnam directional Ponniyin Selvan 1 starring Vikram, Karthi, Jayaram Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to take a bumper opening in Tamil Nadu.

Mani Ratnam’s epic period drama movie Ponniyin Selvan 1 is releasing today at the box office. If advances are an indication then the movie is set to take a historic opening in Tamil Nadu. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the movie sold around 7 lakh tickets on the opening day alone, with the majority of bookings from the home state i.e. Tamil Nadu. The report also states that the multiplex chain PVR alone has sold around 2 lakh tickets.

There is tremendous hype surrounding the movie thanks to the popularity of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan on which the movie is based. The presence of big names like Vikram, Karthi, Jayaram Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has also played a big role in creating hype.

Coming to advances, the numbers look insane and trade believes that the movie is set for one of the biggest openings of all time in Tamil Nadu. The shows are starting as early as 1 am and most of the theatres are running to packed houses. There are some multiplexes running more than 70 shows, and all of them are sold out in advance.

As far as the Hindi dubbed version is concerned, the advances are weak, but one can expect a turnaround over the weekend once the word of mouth comes into play.
